This is an interesting release by the magnificent Canadian singer-songwriter, Michael Buble' titled, "Hollywood The Deluxe EP". The CD has 8 tracks : 5 live tracks, "At This Moment", "Haven't Met You Yet", "Me And Mrs. Jones", "Heartache Tonight" [These are from the number one album/bestseller, "Crazy Love", but recorded live] & "Twist And Shout" ['Amazon version' has "Some Kind Of Wonderful" instead of this track that is in my CD, which is an 'Import version'] and 3 'new' studio songs, "Hollywood", "End Of May" & "Best Of Me". The album opens with the first single/video, "Hollywood", an ok song with great guitar chords & vocals. Track 4, "End Of May", is a great solid track : great piano interlaced with a great violin with great lyrics & vocals to boot! Track 8, "Best Of Me", is a cover of a classic song David Foster (Producer here) released in the 90s : it's an interesting & good interpretation of a great song & with great vocals by Michael Buble'. The remaining 5 songs/tracks are great live recordings of the well known greats from the number 1 "Crazy Love" album as outlined above & "Some Kind Of Wonderful" / "Twist And Shout".
Overall, it's an interesting release as follow-up to the bestseller, "Crazy Love", 8 tracks are a bit low in number (considering 5 tracks are from previous release, though live are of 'normal' duration/length), but Michael Buble' is great nevertheless.

Reprise Records presents "HOLLYWOOD: THE DELUXE EP" -- Pop vocalist of the millennium is Michael Bublé, with shades of Connick, Darin, Sinatra and Torme, all rolled into one nice neat package (and that's the plain truth) --- Just in time for the holidays Bublé has released his new mini-version with eight great tracks, sure to please all his fans.

In Michael's own words "People will do anything for their 15 minutes in the limelight, and you have to remember who you are and why you wanted it. At the end of the day, you should be careful. You might get what you wish for." --- Bublé remarks this song is about his "tongue-in-cheek" statement on the culture of being a celebrity --- Just watched the video on "Check Out Related Media" on Amazon.Com, a fun watch with some interesting characters - who look very much like Bublé .

3 Some Kind of Wonderful [3:06]
4 End of May [3:54]

Mr. Jim's Ratings:
Quality of Sound: 5 Stars
Performance: 5 Stars
Mixing: 5 Stars
Overall: 5 Stars [Arrangements & Song Selection]

This release is loaded with musicality packed "Live" performances of previously released songs, but the intimate version of "End of May" with touching lyrics is right up Buble's alley, and he nails it to the very last note --- Highly recommend the "Hollywood" album as a "must have in your collection".

It's no secret that Michael Bublé is a very talented performer; and this EP has terrific songs that Michael aces as effortlessly as if it were mere breathing! Of course, we know it really isn't as easy as Michael makes it seem--his talent carries him through every time. The album offers four live tracks out of the eight that are here while the others are from studio sessions--but I can assure you that the quality of the sound is excellent throughout the album. In addition, three of the four live tracks were previously recorded in the studio for Michael's "Crazy Love" CD: "At This Moment;" "Haven't Met You Yet" and "Heartache Tonight."

"Hollywood" starts the album off with a powerful song; and that music accompanies him to perfection--this is some opening number! "At This Moment" has Michael singing with all his heart and soul; his rendition of this classic song impresses me greatly. Michael Bublé's sophisticated phrasing, his sense of timing and his excellent diction all combine to make songs like this one very special. In addition, "Some Kind of Wonderful" has a really great sound to it; Michael nails this and it's all very easy on the ear.

"End of May" has Michael singing a poignant, sensitive song about the deep, deep pain and even the "quiet rage" that can occur when a true love ends; once again Michael sings this from the heart and just one listen proves it. The live recording of "Me and Mrs. Jones" highlights the fantastic rapport Michael always enjoys with his adoring audiences; and I love to hear him sing this tune. He never lets go of a superfluous note and that's grand.

Another good product from Mr. Buble and David Foster. The lushness of "The Best of Me" is very typical of a DAVID FOSTER production (and since he wrote it, he produces). It fits Michael's style perfectly. The rest of the EP is also very good, but it is the studio cuts that stand-out most of all. After having seen Michael at an intimate evening for 300 people in Palm Springs last year, he truly does have the pipes to continue onto a great if not grand career. Even with a bit of a sinus issue, he never flinched once in his performance, a rarity in today's world with "pitch correction" and the like. He's the real-deal, folks ... let's just hope he can make smart choices in his material going forward. He has one of the best voices in pop music today, and he uses it well.

Keep the good stuff coming, Michael. Your fans (and you) deserve only the best material.
