Viva Montez!,
This review is from: Hollywood Themes in Cha Cha Cha (Audio CD)
This is the second album by Bobby Montez to surface on CD. The Bobby Montez combo is a prime example of the West Coast Latin Jazz explosion. I recall the late 1950s and early 1960s in Los Angeles and the power and excitement of Latin Jazz. We spent weekends in the locally famous M Club, a tiny jazz joint in east L. A. Headliners like Cal Tjader would play the M Club when they were passing through but the house combo, Bobby Montez, was the real thing composed entirely of local latinos. There was joy and excitement during their sets and recordings capture some of that. Too bad they never produced a "live" album. Hollywood Themes is a great example of their infectious artistry. Whenever I play this CD I am back in the tiny, steamy M Club. Viva Montez!

I first bought this "album" about 40 years ago. It is still one of my favorites. If you like Cal Tjader, you'll like this CD.

I saw Bobby Montez, et al, at a night club in Inglewood, CA. Outrageously Fantasmagorical group! I bought this LP album. Webster does'nt have the words to describe! Ricardiez
