About the Author

Matt R. Jones is a stubbornly independent fellow hailing from the American Midwest that writes off-the-wall vampire and horror fiction for fun and a little bit of profit. He'd like to do this for a living someday, but for the moment, he's just happy that people from Great Britain to Australia to New Zealand have been reading and loving his stories since 1998. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

More About the Author

When I first started writing, I caught flack from potential agents and publishers because my stories didn't shamelessly copy Anne Rice -- the hip thing to do in the late 90's and early 2000's -- and nowadays, I'm told to hang it up because I don't write like Stephanie Meyer.

The vampire stories I write -- while taking regular forays into dark, bloody territory -- often have more in common with over-the-top action movies like Desperado, or profanely hilarious comedies like Clerks.

My characters aren't cardboard cut-outs, either -- they're PEOPLE who happen to be vampires, and as such, they'll act like you or I would in a given situation... and they don't always make the right choices. Nor are they all-knowing, all-powerful... because they're human.

Now, don't get me wrong -- I LOVE vampire fiction of all sorts, and Nancy Collins is my personal favorite vampire author! But to tell you the truth...

I can't write brooding, gothic prose to save my butt, and angsty teen drama makes me giggle. If I tried to fake it, it would totally suck, so instead I write action-packed vampire yarns full of swearing, tomfoolery, and my own observations about life. I want to make your heart pound with excitement, and I want you to laugh so hard you have to put the book down...

Which usually happens when you read "The Thing In Stacey's Garage," found in Sex, Blood, & Rock 'n Roll. I've had people from New Zealand to South Africa to Canada tell me that ridiculous, profanity-laden story brought them to tears of laughter, and it makes my day every time.

And really -- how often do you come across vampire fiction that makes you laugh yourself stupid?!

So while I'm advised to alter my stories in favor of whatever trend is popular in vampire fiction, I can't do it. That would be a betrayal of my heart and the readers who've stuck with me for over a decade through thick and thin. At the end of the day, it's YOU that keeps me inspired and keeps me working at this -- I'm not here to make the mainstream crowd happy... I want to make YOU happy.

So I do it all myself -- for us.

Writing the Hollywood Vampires stories -- and a few other projects -- is something I do out of love, not because I'm gonna get rich. I work a full-time "day-job" as a marketing consultant / copywriter, so that's what pays my bills. Now mind you, I'd LOVE to get rich doing writing vampire fiction -- but that's not my primary motivation...

I do this stuff because we both love it. Period.

Every e-mail, kind word, piece of fan art, or encouragement you send me is worth every hour of work I put into the Hollywood Vampires universe, and I'm hooked.

5.0 out of 5 stars They don't give interviews and they sure don't glitter!!!, March 31, 2011
These vampires don't give interviews and they don't glitter!!! It's a tag line the author used to use on his website. Fans of those 2 works please don't take that as an attack it's not. Matt has said many times that he is a fan of both but with his Hollywood Vampire universe he has set out to create something diffrent and he has done just that. You see Matt asked himself where do vampires come from? Well the simple answer is they were once human. Not all people/humans are dark and brooding so then the question becomes why should vampires all be that way? Well to be frank they shouldn't just like the people they are derived from vampires should be unique and diffrent and Matt has set out to create a world where they are just that. And he's achieved that remarkably. The vampires of the Hollywoodvampires universe are diverse you've got your rockers, goths, nerds, mysterious enigmas, rebels, goofballs, punks, gypsies, and hulking amazons. Just like people the vampires of the Hollywoodvampire universe are all diffrent. Because of these diffrences it leads to stories that are bit diffrent then your classic vampire story. Matt's stories are a blend of humor, action, adventure, romance using character that are developed and likable.

Unholy Wars is the 1st tale from Matt Jones' Hollywood Vampires universe and it's a great jumping on point. Your introduced to many of the vamps that become mainstays of the universe. It's a great action story and a very fun read. If your a fan of the vampire genre I implore you give it a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure genius at worK!!!, May 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I had the privilege of being introduced to the Hollywood Vampire world many years ago. Back when the only novel was Unholy War and few short stories. Matt is a genius in that he had made a realistic world that has fantasy wrapped in. This world could exist and no one would know. With every story I have read, I forget I'm reading about vampires until something happens to snap me back to the vampire world.

I unfortunately lost track of the Hollywood Vampires for several years. I must admit that I have read and enjoyed many other vampire stories and series. I had finally finished my last series and was craving a "fix". I went looking for my copy of the novels and had realized I had lent it out and never gotten it back. I was sooooo relieved when I found the books on amazon and bought them. When I started reading them again, I had forgotten how much I loved this world and how much I laughed and cryed with the characters. No one can be disappointed by this book or any story Matt writes.
