This edition of the outstanding New King James Version has a good "feel" to it, both the flexible leather or bonded leather cover (I have one of each) and the smooth clear pages. The text is extremely legible, both the body and the centre column references and notes, and is well presented in columns with bold chapter and verse numbers, although in some places the red letter text does not always line up totally with the black. This is though only a very minor irritation as each verse can be picked out easily as it begins on a new line and subject headings make it very easy to navigate passages and chapters. The centre column references are most useful although the concordance is very limited. Texual notes in the centre column deal with the main manuscript issues. This edition is indeed very user friendly, lacking in bulk but overflowing with practicle helps, in a literal but very readable translation. And as it is very portable is useful for both private and group study.

i'll start that i have 4 study bibles, a big large print thats too heavy to carry so it stays home, a small fat regular print i stoped carrying to church ( cant read the small print)and 2 more that i seldom take to church ( both are not good reference bible ).

so when i say that the nkjv, ultrthin, largr print is the best its because 1. a great study bible. 2. i can read the large print very easy 3.its very light 4. super thin ( fits my or my wife hands)5. the thumb index is a fast way to look up things at home or church.this is now the only bible i've been useing.

All things considered, this may be the best New King James Version (NKJV) Bible on the market. The print isn't exactly "large" - capitals letters are about as tall as caps in Times New Roman 9.5 point font - but it is dark and there's relatively little show-through (ghosting). This is a red letter edition, but the color is dark, much easier on the eyes than the skinny, bright pink characters found in many Bibles. The print quality is nearly uniform throughout. The paper is slightly glossy, but I haven't found glare to be a problem.

The binding appears to be sewn, not glued. You'll find a row of stitches in the margin (overcasting) at Genesis 14, and a similar row in the concordance. The index tabs are black in the Old Testament and red in the New. The book comes with only one, very narrow (3/16") black ribbon marker. The leather is thin and somewhat flexible, with gold imprinting on the inside edge of the cover.

Each book leads off with a brief introduction. Thereafter, the text is in two columns (each 2 1/8" wide) that sandwich a column of verse references. Verses are separated, not run together into paragraphs, and sections are marked off by headings in italic type. There's not much room between lines of text, but I've seen far worse. Top, bottom, and outer margins are around 1/2" wide.

Unlike most modern language Bibles, the NKJV New Testament is based on the Received Text, not on the most ancient Greek manuscripts. But many (though far from all) alternate readings are indicated in marginal notes. The NKJV is very literal, the most literal modern language translation I've used. (I recently examined a number of New Testament translations and recorded my results in a paper entitled "An Attempt to Quantify Literalness in New Testament Translations.

While I have been greatly disappointed at the Bibles that Thomas Nelson and Holman publishers have been putting out lately, I am pleased with this edition of the New King James Version in the large print. The Bible is essentially the same as the NKJV ultra thin reference Bible with just a bit larger print and a little more size to it. The Bible comes in red letter editiion (a negative in my opinion), has short book introductions (thankfully without outlines), and is in verse format.

This edition is ideal for Bible teaching or preaching because the print is good and the pages are not too thin that you can't turn to another passage quickly. It is also quite light and easy to walk around with during your teaching.

Overall, this is a great edition to any Bible students library and the NKJV is a great literal translation.

This Bible is exactly what I wanted: New King James Version, indexed, red-letter text, large print, and genuine leather binding. I don't personally care for commentaries, but I do like some background information on each book of the Word, and this does exactly that with a brief introduction to each book. Plus, it is easy to find a specific scripture in each book, thanks to the sub-headings. This Bible makes it more likely that I will consistently read God's Word, because it is tailored to me. Find what works for you, and read God's word!

I was looking for a smallish/portable bible for some time and this is finally it! Most small bibles reduce the text size so much that I have to hold it an inch from my nose to read it----not this one, its got big text. Plus it has the thumb indentations so I can quickly find the right book to go to when the pastor says the verse. Excellent color maps in back were a nice touch too. Leather cover is thick and durable, as is the binding. Only complaint is that it has that gold finishing on the top and sides of the pages which looks nice but it comes off on my fingers after awhile. Plus, I wouldve preferred silver if anything. Note: It says "King James Version" in the title but its not...its actually NKJV (which it also says in the title)--I took a gamble and won (I wanted NKJV).
