From an artistic standpoint, this item is fabulous. It adds a catchy personality to any room. The function falls a bit short of excellence. For EACH pose desired you have to tighten the screws on the joints so it will hold. This might not be a huge problem for some people but I've come across cheap toys that don't require as much labor as this. It does become flimsy when the joints are loose. As a result a slight bump on the table can cause the entire figure to collapse. I wish the light switch was somehow placed on the base to make it easier to turn the light off/on. Instead it must be reached almost halfway down towards the power plug. The one I received came with a few defects but this might just be a fluke. Overall, I expected better but it just looks too cool to not have it sit around in my room. I would not purchase another one however I'm definitely keeping the one I already own.

I don't usually give reviews, but this product warrants one. The lamp is definitely cool. I purchased for my son's birthday, as he was also getting his first desk. The product is pictured and described as silver with black joints, but this combination is not an option. The lamp they sell is only the black with the silver joints. I inquired about this because I would rather have the silver, but to no avail. Response time was horrible. But oh well, the black lamp would still be neat....

When received, the box had no packing material, the plastic around the item was torn open, and the lamp was in pieces. We tried to put it back together, but as other reviewers mentioned, the joints don't work as well as they could...or should. My young son noted that the balls should be a fraction smaller or the screws a bit longer--he's absolutely right. The one leg of the lamp we could not get to stay no matter what, and the robot can't balance on one leg, so he did nothing but collapse into a pile anytime it was touched.

I contacted OrangeOnions about this. No response. I contacted again. No response. Then I threatened to post a disparaging review and they finally reponded. I sent pictures of the item when it arrived and how it is now, and they agreed to refund my money. Time went by and no update, no refund. I emailed AGAIN. Finally, they say they will contact amazon to refund the money. Ridiculous.

The product is a neat idea, and with a few tweaks I think it would be great, but don't rely on the seller to be helpful at all.

It looks pretty cheap and it's very difficult to maneuver it into positions with the hex-wrench--the joints and appendages move around while tightening and loosening making it frustrating or impossible to get it into and keep the desired shape. I paid almost $30 for it but in hindsight would only pick it up if it were around $15.

Who dosen't want a really cool desk lamp. I'd been looking for something unique and found this. It's joints are easily manipulated and can be locked with the provided allen wrench. It comes with a 25 watt bulb, which has just the right amount of light. I'm a techno geek and this lamp would make a great gift for anyone looking for an alternative light source.

When this lamp arrived it was very cool looking. However, in order to reposition the robot, you have to loosen the screws. They were all overly tight. One of the knee joints came apart and we couldn't get it back together, it seemed like the little screw was too short, or the piece that it screwed into was just stripped. I took the screw and other pieces to the hardware store to see if i could buy a replacement screw and they confirmed that the piece the screw goes into was stripped. I had hoped the company could just send me a new piece, but that was not possible. I had no trouble returning the item to amazon and recieving a refund. I have considered trying another one because it is a very cool lamp, but just haven't gotten around to it. Also, there are a lot of moving pieces so I'm worried that something will be wrong with the next one, too.

If you're into different, then this lamp fits pretty well. It's a neat lamp, but I don't think it's executed that well.

The lamp itself comes with an "intermediate base" bulb, which is a fairly difficult size base to find for bulbs...they are smaller than the standard bulb base, but larger than the candelabra style base. Each "joint" on the lamp is controlled by a screw that tightens the "joint" more firmly in place.

The reason I gave this item 3 stars is because:

1. The "joints" are hard to position. As you tighten one joint, others start to move. You also have to tighten the joint a lot to actually make it not move as much as you'd like. Meaning, you have to torque that screw to make the joint stick. After you get everything in place, it's not so bad to adjust.

2. The black material used on the body portion of the lamp looks unrefined. It almost looks like there's a plastic coating on it that's peeling. It's not as noticeable in poor lighting.

3. The "intermediate" base makes it harder to find different styles of bulbs.

I'm not sure I'd buy another one, but I'm happy to have one of these in my home. It's different.

UPDATE: I bought some button magnets, and stuck it on one the lamp. Now I can stick the tightening wrench right to the lamp.

I was looking for a small lamp for my desk and this little guy did it for me. I love the price and I always have my friends playing with it and asking me where I got it. If you are looking for something cool to put on your desk this is it...not to bright and not to dim so it works out if you are looking for something just to keep your eyes from hurting. Be carefull not to play with the lamp after its been on for a while...HOT!

Son loves the lamp. It looks very cool on his desk and it is good-sized (substantial). The only issue is that you have to tighten the joints with the allen wrench (included with shipment) pretty much every time you adjust positioning of the robot.Overall I am very pleased with the product. I do recommend it.

It is a fun little lamp, provides enough light, but not fantastic. If you want the lamp in one pose and won't reposition it much, then it's probably fine. Any time you reposition it, you need to lock down the screws on the joints.

We bought this for my daughter for her desk. She loves it but it arrived slightly damaged. The package didn't look damaged so I'd assume it was damaged at the warehouse. She didn't care though. It is difficult to get it to stay in a pose which is why it only gets 4 stars.
