This review is from: Holmes HAOF-90UC 10-Inch 3-Speed Blizzard Table Fan (Kitchen)
I have had 2 of these fans in my son's room for more than a year. He has a stuffy room with no cross ventilation and these fans help quite a bit. I am sure I could make do with just one of them, but having to two on opposite sides of his room makes sleeping more comfortable. The house has air conditioning but some of the rooms arent as cool as others or are just stuffy. A fan really helps cool off the room and move the AC around the house more efficiently. On days that are not quite warm enough to turn on the AC these fans really make sleeping bearable. I have them set at opposite sides of the room but I keep meaning to wall mount them. An excellent feature! There is some fan noise but truthfully, it drowns out noise coming from outside his room and I think the *white-noise* quality of it helps him sleep. The loudness of the noise is based on the fan setting. For the price...this is a great fan. And the size is perffect for small rooms. Add that you can wall mount it and you have an excellent product.

This little fan runs great and really moves a lot of air with very little noise. I have had it in my office for a couple of years and often enough it has been left on over a weekend or holiday without any apparent harm. For the price, I don't think you can do any better.

Yes, it is really loud!,

I can attest to what many of the other reviewers are saying: at its lowest setting, this fan is very loud! I suppose you can think of it as white noise, but it's almost loud enough to go beyond that. If you turn the fan up to medium or high, it gets even louder, but really, I don't see any reason to go above the already-powerful low setting in an office or home office setting.
One or two other reviewers have stated that the fan is quiet. Perhaps there is a quality control issue and it depends on the individual fan you end up with. On the plus side, the fan really does get the air moving. It has a three-year warranty, which is better than a lot of the cheaper or "no-name" fans. I'm keeping this fan. I wonder if it will last 18 years, like the one it's replacing. Remember to check back in 2025 and I will let you know!

The current trend is to produce noiseless fans; this is a huge drawback for those of us who need white noise, and loud white noise, at that! My little SleepMate white noise machine, while it works fine, simply doesn't produce sound loud enough for actual noise blocking. That's where my search for a new "loud" fan came in. The Holmes HAOF-90UC does the trick. It produces wind sound loud enough to help me sleep through "normal" daytime apartment noises when I need to sleep during the day because of night shift work. There is also no distracting motor or irregular noises, providing it's not oscillating. This fan tucks unobtrusively into a corner, which led me to choose this over the typical noisy big box fans. When I do use it for its intended air circulating purposes, it does an impressive job for its size. I've used this fan regularly for over one year, and it's still working just fine.

High Velocity Fan,

Ok for the price. Nice small footprint and design; however, it's a little noisy on top speed. Basic back/forth motion; and does a good job of moving air. The base is wieghted so it remains stable. I would NOT use it at night while sleeping because of the noise; but it will circulate air in a warm room.

Very loud, died after 2 months,

Although I read reviews stating that this fan was noisy, I ignored them and rushed ahead with the purchase. While this fan IS quite powerful, those reviews didn't lie: it's so noisy and disruptive that I only used it on the lowest setting. In addition, it spontaneously died after 2 months of use. Granted, I used the fan daily for a couple hours, but I expected it to be more durable. I would spend a couple extra dollars and get a quieter, long-lasting appliance.

Here's the long and short of it.,

The fan is GREAT! It is powerful, and really moves the air. I bought one for my cubicle at work against the other recommendations. It is a little loud, but not a nuisance on the low setting (which still moves the air quite adequately). If it is turned on to medium or high, it's just too noisy for a cubicle. For an office with a door, it may be just fine. If you're in a cubicle in a relatively quiet office, run it on low, and you'll be just fine.
The footprint for the fan is quite large. The base is ~20cm width and ~25cm deep. So, unless you plan to mount it to a wall, make sure you have room on your desk. You may also want to purchase paper weights... ;)

Good for casual use, not everyday 24/7 use,
This review is from: Holmes HAOF-90UC 10-Inch 3-Speed Blizzard Table Fan (Kitchen)
I bought this fan to circulate the air in a 4' x 4' horticulture growing area. It is wall mounted and left on 24 hours a day in oscillation mode on low speed. After a month or so it began to quit oscillating and make a popping noise, like the gears that enable oscillation were not catching. I tried to tighten the screw that retains the pull that starts/stops oscillation and it has helped some but it still randomly happens.
I know its new and I can send it back for warranty repair but I threw away the box and with shipping costs back to them etc, its just not worth it. I think this may be a good example of why its better to buy some things from a local store where you can easily return it if you have a problem. I know Holmes has a good reputation and the fan is powerful as all get out so maybe my constant 24/7 requirements were just too much for it.

I agree with the first reviewer. Much too loud. I like "white noise" and many times use fans just for that purpose. This noise however, is way beyond "white." It certainly moves a lot of air for its size, and seems like a good quality product, but the sound sort of takes over the room. Can't hear much else.

I bought the latest model, which has a thermostat in it's base. It has an electronic, single push-button thermostat that can be set at 60, 65, 70, 75, or 80 room temp. Has green lights under each temp setting, and red lights for high and low. Thermostat is very accurate! You can use low speed with thermostat, high speed with thermostat, or just low and high speed always on. This fan is small, un-obtrusive, and has oscillation and tilt. I have used this fan for 2 nights now, and it's great for the bedroom. You select your temp, set it on low, and forget it. If your room falls below temp selected, it turns off. If it warms up again, it comes back on! Moves lots of air on low! High speed is not for sleeping! Quite a bit of wind sound on high. Low speed will cool a 14' x 16' living room. Fan is quiet on low speed.
