Customer Reviews

This air cleaner does a good job of removing dust from the air.

Nothing sleek about the design and there's no hiding it, but as long as you're not looking for something to blend in with the artwork, this is a great product.
Mundai
Slightly noisy when we are watching TV but that can't be helped.

We purchased this unit to combat pet odor and dust upstairs, and a musty smell in the basement. So far we have used it upstairs only, and I like it so much I will probably buy another for downstairs instead of moving it around.

After a few hours of running it in our bedroom I noticed no difference in air "smell," but was shocked that when I laid down, my usual congestion didn't set in. Likewise in the morning. For the first time in months I awoke without stuffiness and bleary eyes. We've tried ionizers and ozone purifiers, but neither of them worked as well as this model.

I got so attached to sleeping without congestion, we haven't tested its efficacy for the basement odors yet, but I will update the review when we do.

Pros:
-Within minutes, the unit had 4 or 5 dog hairs stuck to its front (I didn't realize they floated around so much, we have one medium-sized dog). So the suction is no slouch.
-The motor really is almost silent on its lowest speed. I didn't hear anything and had to check for air movement. Sure enough, it's circulating.
-The unit takes air in the front and expels it out the top, so you can push the unit against the wall, unlike many models. It's easily kept out of the way.
-It works. We noticed a difference in air quality (no stuffiness, congestion) from day 1.

Cons:
-The highest speed (4) is loud. This isn't a big con, though, because you can run higher speeds when you're not around and lower the speed when you're sleeping, etc. Speed 3 sounds like an average tower fan (I like it for white noise when sleeping), 2 is quiet, 1 is almost silent.
-It looks like a purifier, and a big one at that.

I love the shape and size. it is loud on high but it cycles a ton of air, I crank it on high when I leave the room and turn it down to low when I'm in it. this thing is so powerful that you don't really need it on high all the time. I just bought a second one to put in the bedroom.

I received my Holmes 4 weeks ago and it has been on nearly 24 hours a day since. Knock on wood, so far it has been working perfectly. Some people have complained about noise factor. I think it is unlikely that you can have an air movement device with the motor and fan blade in the same room and not hear it. A home central air unit is usually in the garage, closet or attic, therefore your not likely to hear the noise from the motor and fan and the air from it comes into you room by ductwork. Nice and quite. Even on high speed I feel that the Holmes is quite enough for the amount of air that it moves through it. I place the unit in our bedroom at night and set the speed on 2 or 3 and don't notice it being on. yes you can hear it, but it is moving air, all from one unit. The filters in it look like they should stop the smallest of particles. I am very well pleased with the Holmes so far but I am aware that it is made in China. I just hope that I stay satisfied.

Cleans the air well, but is very noisy on high. Front cover has to have dust wiped off a lot. But again, it does clean the air to my satisfaction.

Rather than share a room with his older brother, our youngest son opted to move into the front bedroom which served as a storage room. So we emptied the space and put everything into a rented storage unit. Once emptied, I thoroughly vacuumed the ceiling, walls, and carpet with my old sealed HEPA Eureka Smart Vac and, to be thorough, followed up with my new Prolux Stealth sealed HEPA vacuum.

Our Kenmore Progressive 335 HEPA Air Purifier, (which I love except for the fact that replacement filters are overpriced) stayed in big brother's bigger room so we needed an air purifier for the new, half as large, bedroom space.

I bought the Holmes HAP8650B-U HEPA Air Purifier in a discount store after Christmas. I read reviews and compared the CADR to other similarly priced models and decided it was a good buy. I read somewhere that the replacement HEPA filters for this model were around $20-$25 dollars and that made the model even more appealing. What they failed to say is that you need three of them and three charcoal pre filters each time you replace them.

These HEPA filters needed replacing in less than three months AND even with all of the 'efficient' filtration, there was fine particulate dust blowing out of the unit and coated within the unit itself. When I need to spend another $75 on HEPA and $10 on pre filters - that's $85 bucks in less than three months, I expect to have filtered air. Plus I had a mess to clean up just to get this thing working marginally making the unit a messy, labor intensive, inefficient piece of junk. If I can find the receipt, I'm returning it.

This is our fifth air purifier and the first and only one where I have seen heavy amounts of particulate dust get into the space that is designed to blow out the filtered air.

This air cleaner does a good job of removing dust from the air. I keep it on the lower settings most of the time and I find it is not annoying at all. I like that the discharge is on top so that it does not blow things about the room.
