Call me crazy, but I love this fan! Finally, there is peace again in my small apartment. Three months ago I purchased a Sunbeam fan, Model SSF1600RC (see my review of that fan on amazon.com), and it so disturbed my peace, that I ordered this Holmes fan. The other one will be stored away for emergencies. I previously had a Holmes 19" fan, and I noticed it was quieter than all the other brands I`ve tried, so I really hoped this fan would also be quiet. It did not disappoint. In fact, this is the quietest fan I've ever owned. Now I don't have to bother my neighbors by playing the TV loud, in order to hear it over fan noise. If you turn this fan up to High, it's as noisy as my Sunbeam was on low. The Low and Medium speeds are pleasantly quiet. The Low speed puts out enough air flow that you can feel it 10 feet away.

The strange thing is, this Holmes fan is manufactured by Sunbeam, according to the instruction booklet. The warranty is covered by "Sunbeam Products, Inc., doing business as Jarden Consumer Solutions". For some reason, their Holmes fans are in a totally different class, as far as noise levels.

If I had the storage space, I would buy another one of these now, because these fans only seem to last 2-3 years. I run it about 15 hours a day during the warmer months, and clean it regularly. Unfortunately, the motors always freeze up on me anyway. It sure would be nice if a fan would last longer than the warranty period. Maybe I'll get lucky this time.

I've had other similarly priced or slightly cheaper fans
operating throughout the summer and they never lasted for more than one season. Holmes has been operating flawlessly for three years now and counting. It's worth a little extra money!

Purchased this fan to help cool a small computer room. Fan is quieter than the computer fans and keeps the air moving. We've been using the fan for 6 months now and haven't had a problem.

It has always amazed me that companies like Amazon want a rating on a product when you have only had it for a few weeks. This fan works great, it is quiet, was easy to assemble and it was delivered promptly but what about four months from now. Based on what I know now, it deserves a five star rating and a great recommendation but if you buy it based on the ratings, keep in mind the limited amount of experience that we users have had on which to base our evaluation. I hope I am just as happy with it a year or more from now.

I have a problem with getting too hot sleeping on our memory foam mattress. I checked and researched and asked and just could not find a solution that seemed it would work. Then I was divinely inspired! A fan. Aimed right from the side of the bed. That meant it had to be a standing fan, or else set up on top of something. Reading about this fan and measuring the bed, it seemed like it would be just right in the standing setting. But in case I need to, I can take a rod out of it and set it on a table next to the bed. Great options!

It arrived today, and hubby wasn't home and the temperature outside was about 100 degrees. I thought I would try to go ahead and put it together. The directions were great! I put it together carefully, and turned it on, and voila!

I haven't slept through the night with it yet, so I can't say for sure it is going to solve my problem--but checking out lying there for a few minutes, it feels PERFECT on the low setting for the purpose, and it is whisper quiet. I have a TV right there and could hear it fine. I also have a radio I play very softly during sleep, soft enough not to disturb my husband, and I could hear it clearly, too. Yippee!

This seems like a very well made fan. The price was reasonable, and I'm very pleased with the instructions. You seldom see instructions that clear these days. I don't know yet how long it will last. We definitely needed a fan, because we no longer had even one in the house. In case of air conditioning problems, that would be disastrous. I hope this fan sees many happy days with us!

Update, the next morning: Success! A good night's sleep, on a VERY hot night! Thank you, Lord!

Excellent quality and function, even more so in view of reasonable price. Light enough to easily carry but weight and design such that it seems solidly anchored to ground. Design unobtrusive, thought was given to footprint and profile, aesthetics were given due consideration. Virtually silent at low speed; higher speeds not used. Good height, simple, effective control. Nothing comparable on line and junk in stores. Best Buy.

I purchased two of these fans for my husband's studio. They join two other Holmes fans which he uses to keep the air moving, not only for personal comfort and to make the a/c more efficient, but also to help paint on his canvases dry faster. On all fronts, they perform just fine. The fans are steady and stable, they run for hours on end without overheating the motor, the other Holmes fans we own have lasted for years and keep on going, and they keep the air moving very efficiently with very little maintenance (only cleaning the blades every now and then). Both the process of assembling them and the process of running and maintaining them is simple and intuitive. They are not completely silent--especially when you have several of them running at once--there is a slight hum which is probably unavoidable and, actually, quite nice.

Great product! Works very well and is not that noisy so it's easy to sleep with it on. It also survived a kick from a disgruntled boyfriend and still works exactly the same.

Wonderful fan and very quiet. Easy to setup, very sturdy, with options to pan or stay in one position plus the ability to tilt up. When I use the medium setting, fixed position, pointed over my head I have the advantage of room circulation without distracting background noise or blowing items on my home office desk.

I looked for this fan specifically for the base type. It is metal, and lightweight. In our home, the fan gets moved a lot, so the base on our last one (cross legs) got beat up. The more pricey ones, and most newer ones, use a plastic or metal weighted round base. I checked on those, and they are heavier; don't know about durability. This one has good durability, and lightweight. The fan is not as efficient as some, not the quietest, but works fine after a month of use.
