5.0 out of 5 stars THE best fan I've ever owned
I now own three of these fans. Yes, they are a bit more pricey than you basic $19.99 fan found in discount stores, but worth every penny. When you think of all the useless fans you toss, this one pays for itself- not to mention the energy cost of the fan vs A/C. Another reviewer pointed out on this same fan on another review- many good features of this fan(why it's not...

3.0 out of 5 stars Barely supported by cheap plastic legs
It was a nice fan while it lasted. But then it got bumped and two of the plastic legs slightly cracked where they attach to the middle. It doesn't look broken, but will no longer stand up straight. I don't think they should support such a heavy fan with such flimsy plastic legs that get brittle and break after you've had it a while.

I now own three of these fans. Yes, they are a bit more pricey than you basic $19.99 fan found in discount stores, but worth every penny. When you think of all the useless fans you toss, this one pays for itself- not to mention the energy cost of the fan vs A/C. Another reviewer pointed out on this same fan on another review- many good features of this fan(why it's not posted under this same fan I don't know). Anyway, this is one SUPER fan - you will not believe how much air it moves!!! On the low setting, it can be felt 10ft. away with little or no disturbance to papers, curtains etc. You can definitely feel the difference on the setting when you switch speeds. On medium setting, it will blow papers off your desk or kitchen table -key here- the height of the table. On high, this fan will blow you away :)!! I use the high setting when I'm out to help keep the rooms cool for our dog while we are at work _ who can afford to run the A/C that many hours while you're not at home. On extreme heat days. I may turn the A/C on low for her-but just in one room, the fan then extends the cool air into the next room.

Another overlooked use for the fan is while painting a room. This fan really speeds up the drying process _ just make sure you have no powdery debris that you may have gotten as a result from sanding, plastering etc. This fan would also be great to circulate air in a damp basement.

Legs on the fan as other reviewer pointed out, give you more placement options than a rounded dome base. I did accidentally break one of these fans, when I unknowingly pulled it, with the vacuum cord. The cord was around the bottom of the pole, the fan tipped over, causing me to trip to try to save it from falling. PS, I fell on it, no damage to me, but one of the legs broke, because I positioned it at room entrance way with the leg flush against a wall and securely wedged on other side of same leg, by a cocktail table - to avoid accidental tipping , of course. Since I fell directly on the fan portion, full force, I managed to break a blade as well. The next morning I went out and purchased another. With the exception of the new replacement fan, I've had these for three years now and I would not consider buying another brand or cheaper fan.
I love this fan!!!

I've contacted the company. If they reply and offer to replace the legs, I will update this review.

3.0 out of 5 stars Noisy and flimsy, June 17, 2010

I purchased this fan because of its blade size and footstand being an X as oppossed to a round platform. After assembly I observe that the fan is quite noisy in LO, in HI it sounds like you are at the airport standing next to a Cessna 150. Plastic base and shaft has flexibility to it and wobbles unconfidently should you touch or move it. It does not feel like a $50 fan. Unless the motor is of such lasting quality and will still run to cool me when I get to hell, I think you can do as well with one half its price.

For its price range I have not found anything that blows this hard. I live in a hot area and go through alot of fans and this is the most power you will get for under $100. The only drawback is that you must be careful with the stand as it is brittle plastic. I was not careful when assembling and cracked a leg however, it still stands fine.

actual fan is great... base is a piece of crap.... once it cracks you're done.... i am going to buy a hunk of plywood to make a secure base.... talk about planned obsolescence!

1.0 out of 5 stars Fan too heavy for the cheap plastic legs., October 14, 2010

Great fan capability.
However, the cheap plastic legs crack and the fan constantly topples over.
The fan is too heavy for the thin cheap plastic legs.
Leg material/design needs improvement.
Out it goes in the trash today after sitting around unused for some time. Perhaps someone will salvage it and can rebuild the legs and get some good worth out of it.
Too bad...the fan is a great, powerful machine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best fan I have ever owned, December 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Holmes HASF2120 20-Inch Aerodynamic Oscillating Power Stand Fan (Kitchen)

This is my 2nd Holmes HASF2120 fan. The first one I purchased about 10 years ago. There are some slight differences between that one, and this new one - but essentially it's the same fan. I have slept with a fan in my bedroom since I was little, so about 35 years now. I use the white noise to help put me to sleep (and stay asleep). But I also like it blowing on me (weird, I know). But my wife has become so accustomed to it that she also needs these things.

The first fan was a floor model with a cracked blade housing. I used it faithfully for 10 years every night for 8 hours. Over the years the weight of the motor eventually caused the tilt adjustment to not work anymore. This caused the heavy motor to tilt forward slightly. This coupled with the cracked blade housing caused the fan blades to hit the housing. I would fix this every so often by inserting a wad of paper between the motor housing and the tilt mechanism. Eventually, the fan blade housing wasn't usable anymore and so I took it off and ran the fan without a front protection grille. This worked for about a year, until I accidentally fluffed the comforter into the blades when the unit was on. It broke a blade completely off at the base rendering the unit completely unusable.

Not being able to sleep without a fan, I moved a little one that I had from the computer room into the bedroom thinking it would suffice. No way. Not loud enough and didn't move very much air. My wife complained also, so she got on the internet and search Amazon for a replacement and just happened to find the exact same one. We bought it immediately and it arrived in about 5 days. Let me tell you that 5 days of waiting was not very restful for either of us when we were sleeping.

Long story short - this fan is by far the best fan I have owned in 30 years of sleeping with them. It blows hard and makes plenty of white noise - exactly what the wife and I like. My fan never moves from it's position so the while the weak legs that others have complained about is true, it doesn't bother us. I hope they keep making this model because in 10-15 years when I need to replace this one, I'll be looking for the same model again.

This is a very nice fan for the money. It has lots of power , the only drawback is with the stand legs , they seem very easy to break.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good but not Great, July 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Holmes HASF2120 20-Inch Aerodynamic Oscillating Power Stand Fan (Kitchen)
I purchsed the Holmes HASF2120 , 20 inch fan, thinking that it was the same as a fan called 'Pelonis". And in many ways it is: The 5 blades, the base, the 3 speeds, the "cage", and the size of the blades (20").

However, the "Pelonis" had a remote control with timers and modes and, therefore, was infinitely better (mine conked out after 9-10 years of faithful service).

The fan works well, although the stem which carries the fan motor is a bit short for comfort and adjusment.

If you can get the "Pelonis"--don't wait; if you can't, (I couldn't find it) the Holmes HASF 2120 is a very good substitute.
