Good fan,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Holmes HAWF-2095 Twin Window Fan with Accutemp Digital Control (Kitchen)
So many of the reviews for this fan are terrible that I was a little reluctant to buy it. But I bought it anyway because I really needed a window fan with a thermostat, and I bought it from Amazon because stores in my part of the country don't tend to carry window fans in the winter.Like most New Yorkers, I don't have much control over the heat in my apartment, and I use a fan to lower the temperature in my bedroom so I don't wake up sweating in the middle of the night during the winter. I'd been using one of my old Holmes fans that doesn't have a thermostat, but I got tired of having to turn it on and off during the night when I woke up too cold or too hot. I've had this fan for about a month, and so far I love it. It's versatile and relatively quiet, and the digital thermostat works great. Here's some information I had wondered about but couldn't find out until I actually got the fan: (1) There are two separate direction switches, one for each fan, so you can set each one to blow air in or out of the window. (2) There's one switch that sets the same speed (off-high-medium-low) for both fans. (3) There's one switch that sets the same mode (automatic-manual) for both fans; in automatic mode the thermostat turns both fans on and off as needed to maintain the set temperature; in manual mode they're both on all the time. (4) The thermostat can be set anywhere between 60 and 80 degrees in 1-degree increments; there's a big LCD temperature display and two big arrow-shaped buttons for raising or lowering the temperature setting; the buttons are kind of clunky, but they work okay. The fan does a good job of maintaining the set temperature. (5) You have to reset the thermostat if you unplug the fan. Other people evidently have had serious reliability problems with this and other Holmes fans, but not me. I've owned at least four Holmes window fans (three different models) over the past 15 years, and I've never had any problems at all with any of them. My ex-roommate threw one of them away, but it was almost ten years old and still working fine. Two of them have been running practically 24/7 for over four years.

Save energy and keep cool, too!,

I recently purchased the HAWF-2095 with economy in mind. I wanted to save money and energy costs yet still keep cool. This window fan allowed me to do that with a great degree of freedom as it has a thermostat control that is perfect for nighttime operation and days when I'm not home; while it doesn't "cool" like an air conditioner (which also dehydrates your skin) it is capable of sensing the ambient temperature and once you've selected a desired temp and fan speed turn it to auto and you don't even need to think about it. It runs quietly and I've noticed a great deal less dust in my house as I no longer need to keep ALL of the windows open for ventilation; this is especially good if you live in a busy urban area or for people who smoke.

A good fan for any size bedroom.,

I was initially leery of the Holmes name because of bad experiences with their motors on previous products I've purchased over the last 15 years. I looked at this unit last year and was impressed with its features. For the money, I gave it a try. It has functioned well for over a year now. It is reasonably quiet, gives good control over inside temperatures, and has operated for many hours without any notable problems. I'm sure there are higher quality fans out there but not at the ... price. With a five year warranty it is a fair deal.
