5.0 out of 5 stars Thinking of buying another one
I've had this fan for about 5 years and have no complaints. I've never felt the need to "reverse direction" of the air, but if I did I think it's worth saving the money and turning the fan around. Speaking of price, I got mine for $20 or $25 back then and would never spend $40 (current Amazon list price) on any window fan. This fan has been dropped, been used on damp...

The spec says that it is manually reversible. That actually means that you need to take down the fan, switch the side, and put it on back on the window again, just to change the direction of the air flow.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible fan!, August 10, 2006
I bought this fan from Wally World for $20 and got totally ripped off. Luckily I can take it back. Yes, you can reverse the fan by pulling it out of the window and flipping it around. - Can you imagine engineering a product to do this rather than installing a reverse switch? The other bogus thing about this product is that it's super weak. Even on full blast, it barely creates a breeze. Total waste of electricity, and time. After reviewing a few other fans, I purchased the very similar, yet superior Honeywell fan which I kid-u-not, blows twice as hard and has a reverse switch on it. The Honeywell fan actually blows cool air in and out as promised. For $5 more, get the superior Honeywell from your favorite French Big-box store with a huge target on the front.

I had the same "experience" as the other reviewer regarding "Manually Reversible".

Basic fan with basic function. Returned it to buy Honeywell.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fan is too weak to be called a fan, May 26, 2007

Do NOT buy this fan. It it so sorely underpowered that it only just moves the air in front of the blades. It's so impossibly weak that it's difficult to tell which direction is doing what! Spend $5 more on the Honeywell, just as all the other reviewers state.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not what was pictured., November 3, 2010

This review is from: Holmes HAWF2030 Dual Blade Twin Window Fan with Thermostat (Kitchen)
The fan I received is not the same model in the picture.

I repeat the picture doesn't match up to the specs for this fan.

I bought it off the picture because I own one of the fans pictured and it's great.

The fan I received is very weak and all around sub-par but that is on Holmes for creating it so they get two stars for the fan I got.

The fact that the photo on the advertisement doesn't match what the vendor is actually selling is why I give it one star.

Speaking of price, I got mine for $20 or $25 back then and would never spend $40 (current Amazon list price) on any window fan. This fan has been dropped, been used on damp or rainy nights, and seems to be a much sturdier plastic then some of the other ones that I see in stores for more money. I actually plan to go pick up another one when I move at the end of the month to a bigger place.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as expected, February 17, 2011

This review is from: Holmes HAWF2030 Dual Blade Twin Window Fan with Thermostat (Kitchen)
The thermostat was not numerical but low, med, high so I couldn't set it for a temperature. It was noisy with a high pitched sound and I had to return it and order something that I hope will suit my particular needs.

All this said, Amazon handled the return quickly, without any problem. I would definitely order from Amazon again for the great service they provide to their customers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great window fan, October 31, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

This fan is exellent. Due to lack of ducting in the rear of the house we tried a window fan. The short story? We go a great deal on two of them and they suck out the cold or warm air from the room and replace it with the warm or cold air from the front of the house!

2.0 out of 5 stars Spare Parts Often Needed Yet Not Available., March 12, 2008
I had this item without the thermostat. To fit into your window, extender plates are needed (often in addition to the one supplied with unit. Holmes offers to send you a free extender plate in their warranty literature, yet when I called I was told that they were out of stock. Also, I needed TWO more extenders for my wide, 42 inch windows. After waiting for about siw weeks I called Holmes again. I was told that there was no such thing as a waiting list, so they would never have called me if I hadn't called them. Then I was told that the "extra" extra panel would cost me $5.00 plus shipping...and I was told to keep calling them back on a regular basis to check for availability. My neighbor and I cut a panel out of wood and it allows the fan to function very well, though it makes the window look ugly.

5.0 out of 5 stars It never claimed to be electrically reversible, February 13, 2008
By
Blondiefan (Pittsburgh, PA United States) - See all my reviews
HAWF2041 is the model number of the Holmes ELECTRICALLY reversible window fan, which has given me years of excellent service. I bought this model a couple of years after the I bought the 2041 because it was $10 cheaper ($20 vs. $30.) I knew it was manually reversible when I bought it, and I don't mind taking it out of the window and flipping it around to reverse the air flow. The window I bought it for doesn't need to have the air flow reversed that often, if ever, so I don't need to have electrically reversible capabilities for this fan. My boyfriend got the Honeywell electrically reversible fan for a little more money, and it does blow harder (too hard I think), but the plastic on his looks really cheap and flimsy and translucent. This one looks and feels more solid and I've dropped it on the floor a few times with no damage. I leave the 2030 on 24 hours a day all summer long because we don't have air conditioning, and it does its job well, providing me with gentle cross-ventilation. I don't use the thermostat function, I just leave it turned all the way to High all the time so that it doesn't cycle off. I have had this fan for 5 years, only turning it off in the winter, and it's still going just fine.
