4.0 out of 5 stars Works well
Tne apartments in my area have no AC, so every summer we have to break out the fans. This fan was pretty easy to assemble, and it works quite nicely! It's definitely quieter and more effective than a box fan. The remote control is a nice touch, too.

There are "Natural Breeze" and "Sleep Breeze" modes that allow the fan to vary its speed, but I've found them...

3.0 out of 5 stars Puts out an odor
I like the style of the fan but it makes a clicking sound when oscillating and when I've had it on for a while, there is a chemically type burning odor which I don't like at all.

All in all, good buy. I'm able to keep my cool!

4.0 out of 5 stars Moves Air Well, A little noisy, July 21, 2009

Overall I am happy with this fan. It has a nice slim design that does not occupy too much floor space. It moves the air very well even on low setting. I love the various features such as oscillating and the timer. Even comes with a remote though I don't have much use for it given the room it is in. My one minor complaint would be that it is quite noisy on higher speeds, but overall a great fan at a good price. You can't go wrong with this unit.

3.0 out of 5 stars Has Proven Itself in My Household, May 22, 2010

This review is from: Holmes HT38RB2-U Oscillating Pedestal Tower Fan with Remote Control (Kitchen)
The Holmes HT38RB2-U Oscillating Fan has proven itself in my household to be a pretty good fan. The weather can get noticeably hot and humid around here several months of the year; we have air conditioning -- it would be tough to live without it-- but sometimes we just need some spot cooling. This fan takes up very little space, is light, and can be easily moved. The oscillation feature is helpful for cooling, too, and we don't find that it is too noisy. It works very well for spot cooling. The remote control is handy. The unobtrusive design has shown itself to be acceptable in any room of the house, and its small size means it can be easily stored in the cooler months. Price is quite reasonable, too.

I like the style and size of the fan, but the High setting didn't work on the fan we got. Sending it back and am now shopping around more to determine if I want to reorder this one or go with a different brand. Medium setting blew relatively well without abundant noise, but as we're having record heat here right now, I wanted the High setting badly! Also, the fan is a little tippy due to the high center of gravity and small base. If there's no chance of bumping into it or having kids around it, it should be fine, but kids could tip it over pretty effortlessly.

The base of this fan isn't heavy enough. So when you have the fan on oscillate, the fan will rock from its own momentum. It's pretty bad when my cat can push it over, and she's only a 6 or 7 pound cat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect fan for my needs, October 24, 2010

This review is from: Holmes HT38RB2-U Oscillating Pedestal Tower Fan with Remote Control (Kitchen)
I was a little concerned about purchasing this fan given the reviews. However, it has perfectly fit my needs. It isn't a very quiet fan, but since I sleep with white noise in the background it is a perfect fit. It is relatively powerful, and is able to cool off our 10 x 10 bedroom with 9' ceilings pretty easily (though I do not think it would cool off a much larger room). I agree with other reviewers that the natural and sleep breeze settings are rather useless, so we primarily use the oscillating setting. The remote also works well, though you do have to position it somewhat accurately to get the fan to respond. But it perfectly aligns with where I usually sleep so this is not a problem.

My only problem was with assembly, but this was because of my own foolishness. There are two half-moon pieces that you put together, and one side has a little piece that must specifically be in one location. But the instructions make it seem as though it can be assembled with any of the four screws going into any of the other four holes. But there is a specific way it has to be assembled. Most people would've seen this, so it was my own problem. But I thought I would mention it.

All-in-all I have been extremely satisfied with the functioning of this fan and would definitely recommend it to others.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect for our needs!, September 27, 2011

I actually got this product from a different store, but I figured I would write a review here as well. It was on clearance when I got it, so I paid 20 bucks for it, which is amazing now that I see how much it actually costs.
This fan is perfect for my needs and my husband's. Our apartment is really hot, and it's still kind of hot during the winter, but not hot enough to turn the AC on. So we figured a fan would work out perfectly, and it did. Also, since we have a wall unit AC, it makes a little bit of a white noise, so we got used to that. The fan does make that little fan noise, so for us it really worked out perfectly. It's easy to assemble, it's not bad to look at (better than those ugly square units) and it does the job really well. Having the remote is just a plus. I've only had it for a few days, so I don't know how it's going to be working in a few months or a year from now, but hopefully it will be fine. It really is a good fan and I definitely recommend it.
