I stumbled across this show on cable and found it great. These are quick to watch but very interesting and informative. Puts the rest of those home improvement and DIY shows to shame.

I had to order seasons 3 and 4 off the Holmes on Homes website. Every season is great. I learn something from every show

Mike Holmes is a no nonsense contractor who, while fixing a mess another contractor left with unknowing home owners. He also shares with viewers how to correct shoddy workmanship. He teaches viewers lessons leaarned by homeowners and how to avoid remodeling disasters. Programs in season I and 2 were only one half hour--which left views wanting more. In later seanson, Holmes on Homes did indeed, go to a one hour format.

My husband started watching this show years ago and I was determined to not watch another home improvement show but I got sucked in anyway. It is just great! If you want to learn how to do something right, you will learn a lot by watching this. Mike takes things completely apart if it hasn't been done right the first time. The show takes place mostly in Canada and the customers have been taken by bad contractors and others. Mike has lifted roofs clear off the houses to fix the rafters, lifted houses to fix basements that aren't supported right. I saw one show where he went to New Orleans to completely rebuild a house for someone after Katrina...I bet those women down there love him too!

I never thought I would be so captivated by a guy in overalls wearing an earring but...he is every woman's hero. If you watch the show (or rent it from Amazon or Netflix), you will notice that it is mostly women who have called him in. They just love him because he gives them peace of mind by fixing everything the right way. And he has a huge heart. There is one show where he finishes an entire house for a family by Christmas. He also has them a huge Christmas tree with gifts for them and has it actually finished by Christmas too! He goes out of his way to do extra things for people with a disability (like they are in a wheelchair, etc.) Those shows will nearly have you in tears.

So who wouldn't love a guy like this (even if he does wear an earring!)! And you men needn't worry about your wives loving to watch Mike, because you will admire the guy and love him too!
