Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

In 1979, survivors of the Holocaust then living in New Haven organized a Survivors' Film Project to record their experiences in Europe during the Nazi era. Within two years, 200 survivors' stories were recorded and deposited at Yale University. By 1982, the project had attracted major financial support and was expanded to include the testimonies of liberators and bystanders. Today, the Yale Archive is central depository for 22 affiliated video and oral history projects throughout the United States and has 1,450 unpublished primary resource accounts which will eventually fill several volumes of Guides. Volume 1 contains 255 accounts, available and cataloged. The Guide consists of three sections: testimonies; survivor and witness index; subject and geographical index. Section 1, the testimonies, is arranged by testimony number and lists first name and last initial of the witness; name(s) of interviewer(s); date and place of the interview; and, most importantly, a summary of the recorded interview. For Holocaust and Judaica collections.
