This lamp provides more than two times the light recommended by the American Lighting Association for reading and other tasks requiring precision. Equipped with a full-range dimmer. I love this lamp! It has the best precision dimmer I've ever experienced built into the base. It's halogen bulb adjusts smoothly from a very bright natural light that's great for reading down to beautiful mood lighting. I own a couple now as I've grown addicted to the quality of the reading light, the precision of the dimmer and its compact size. It was specifically designed for the "aging eye" that needs brighter task lighting but you don't have to have old eyes to appreciate it. It's heirloom quality, solidly built, well worth the price.

Looks well made up close. Nice click sound on the control on the base to adjust the amount of halogen light up and down. (This makes it both versatile for ambiance & functional for reading.) Overall, my impression is the lamp has a small scale, almost delicate appearance and is currently being used as an excellent desk lamp. This is an investment lamp, not a cheap, use it for awhile temporary lamp. I hope to enjoy it for many years to come.
