Holtkoetter Halogen Pharmacy Lamp No. 6450/1*P1 has an elliptical shade for maximum light output and is equipped with a curved extension arm that reaches up to 27-inch. Adjustable in height from 41 to 56-inch. Cutting-edge dimming technology provided by Dimm-System Punkt 1*P1. Features of Dimm-System Punkt 1 (*P1) include: Point Dimming - the dimming control is reduced to a single point on the arm of the lamp, Tilt Switch - if the lamp gets tipped over, it will switch itself off, Soft On - a single "click" will turn the lamp on and then the lamp gradually brightens to full brightness, Soft/Delayed Off - a single "click" will turn the lamp off by dimming the lamp to 60% brightness, remaining at that level to allow you to exit the room and then gradually turning itself off and finally, Dimming Cycle - press and hold the dimmer down to cycle the lamp through all the dimming levels -release the dimmer when the lamp reaches the light level of your choice. Included with this elegant pharmacy floor lamp is a 100 Watt halogen bulb made by Osram GmbH in Germany. The overall cord length is 8 feet and the extra heavy cast iron base ensures that it will not tip over. This lamp looks great - the high quality is obvious. Good strong light when you need it, dimmable with a touch, easy to adjust position of light. Before buying this I tried out a number of different reading floor lamps in stores and found that most were not as bright as my aging eyes needed, and some were not easy to adjust to the right position while sitting. This lamp is good on both counts. The bulb does throw out a lot of heat when it's on full blast, but I would rarely need it that bright. I am very happy with this product.

The picture confused me a bit about the size and shape of the shade. The shade in the picture is rotated 90 degrees from normal position, so that the top of the shade is facing the viewer and the bulb is facing away. When the bulb is facing down, the shade is 1.5" tall, not 6.5" as it appears. I hope this is clear.
