A great version of a great book!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Holy Bible: Gift And Award Edition (Paperback)
This is a wonderful version of the Bible for people who have difficulty with the old King James, or for people just beginning to read the Bible. It maintains much of the poetic beauty of the old King James, while still making it easier for many people to understand. It follows the old translation closer than any of the other modern translations. It's the bible I give to people I'm witnessing to or friends who are new christians. It's also good for kids and teens.

Great Book, Terrible Print,
By
This review is from: Holy Bible: Gift And Award Edition (Paperback)
There is no dispute that the Bible is THE WORD OF GOD. However, I was sadly disappointed upon receiving multiple copies of this book at the very small print. I cannot pass these books on to adults, my intended recipients, because as people age, they need larger and larger print fonts in order to see what's on the page. I am reluctant to pass them on even to children, because I'm not sure whether the small print will be harmful to their eyes over the long term because they will have to squint. If you want to READ THE BIBLE, then buy one with larger print. Don't buy this specimen.

The best book ever written,
By Rebekah Smith (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Holy Bible: Gift And Award Edition (Paperback)
I think this is a great book for whatever reason you read it, and that's one reason why it is so great. It has every genre. It's written in the simplest form possible, but there's still plenty of food for thought. It can be repetitious and balanced, but that is part of the style it's written in. It also gives an impartial view of history, a VERY rare thing. All in all, the most highly recommended book.

Valuable for any student of life...,
By David (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Holy Bible: Gift And Award Edition (Paperback)
I found some of the reviews below to be quite amusing, but I think that they miss the point. I can only assume that their attempts at humor stem from either disbelief in Christianity or from anger at the way it was transmitted to them. However, I think it is helpful to think of the Bible as a primary document. It has been interpreted in many ways, some of them being very disastrous. But by reading it yourself, you can provide your own interpretation, and exercise your own responsibility for the consequences. The human superstructure of Christianity has a muddled history, no doubt. But so does any human endeavor. Would the reviewers below be willing to cast aside the entirety of science, even though scientific enterprise has maimed countless people (e.g. toxic pharmaceuticals, carcinogenic pollutants, etc.)? Or republican government, even though it elected Richard Nixon and/or Bill Clinton (take your pick)? The Bible provides a perspective on life that is valuable to any person desiring insight and spiritual growth. It contains threads that also run through Buddhism (especially so for the Gospels), Hinduism, Islam, Judaism (obviously), ancient mythology, and even modern archetypal psychology. It is not wise to conform blindly to any single human interpretation of anything. That goes for Christianity, or for Anti-Christianity. That being said, I give this four stars because this Bible provides no historical commentary that would be of great use for those seeking context.

Simple Truth,
By MoonSong333 (MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Holy Bible: Gift And Award Edition (Paperback)
When I first read some of these reviews, I thought it was just a joke, but just in case people really are this cluless about the Bible, I've decided to share some information about the Bible.First off, King James did not write the Bible. What it means by "New King James" is that this is a certain translation of it, the King James translation. Whether or not a man who was a king and had the name James did the translating I do not know (although that would be a good thing to find out). Who did write the Bible, then? Prophets of God recorded what He revealed to them, and each prophet has their own book (some prophets have several books). There are two schools of thought about the writing of the Bible. Some say that God directly wrote the book through the prophets, meaning that He sort of took over their body and wrote the book Himself. The other school of thought states that God directed the prophets as they wrote, perhaps by revealing to them visions or filling them with divine inspiration. This would account for some mistakes in the Bible, as well as a few of the minor contradictions. I follow the second school of thought. Oh, and the idea for the Bible was not stolen from Notredamous's (spell.?) work. Notredamous lived hundreds and hundreds of years after completion of the Bible, and was in fact part of the religion of the Bible, Christianity (I'm speaking of the New & Old Testaments, not to offend and followers of the Jewish faith that might be reading this). The Bible is probably where he recieved his inspiration. Okay, now I should probably do my review. I rate this Book, the Book, five stras, simply becasue I believe that it is the one way to God (even though this is my belief, I am not an advocate for the Cruasades or any other religious prejudice). It is the book of my religion, and in my opinion the best book ever written.

Somewhat improbable,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Holy Bible: Gift And Award Edition (Paperback)
As a fan of God's earlier work in Mesopotamia, I was really looking forward when I heard He was coming out with this latest work. Unfortunately, I'm sorry to report it doesn't quite measure up. I found this particular work to be highly dirivitive of God's previous writings. His use of deux ex machina really detracted from the drama. I mean, come on--Jesus feeding a thousand people from two fish?? I can think of a ton of other slightly more probable endings that would still retain the drama. I suggest in the future God maybe should study up on a good story structure book (Robert Mckee's book on story is quite excellent) for tips on more believable scenarios. All in all, not bad, but maybe next time confer with an editor for tighter composition. A little rambly.

Adam Bodettes's comments were way out of line. The letters of his name rearranged spells bedomast Leviticus 5:12 will make that clear to the faithful. You can tell that this book is first rate by the awesome, spectacular, and bodacious black leather flex binding. Does your copy of little house on the prarie have a tubular binding Adam? I think not. So those that gots a problem with the Bible take a look and don't sing it. bring it. Because the black flex has got too much game.
