A Great Bible for New Christians,
By Jessefitzgerald "tomfitzgerald" (Mobile, Alabama United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Holy Bible NLT, Living Water Edition (Hardcover)
This is a Real Good Bible for New-Believers who don't have general Bible knowledge. The NLT Translation is so easy to understand. I highly reccomend this Bible to anyone just starting out reading the Bible or a New-Believer wanting to learn more about God through reading the Bible.

This review is from: Holy Bible NLT, Living Water Edition (Hardcover)
My son received this Bible while he was having a very hard time, he is 14 and things were very confused. The format of this Bible is easy to read and find what you are searching to learn. It allows one to find answers and solutions to the confusion in life. We all want a copy of it also so we can study the Bible more together and more easily.

highly understandable with generally great commentary,

This is a great addition to any library, if you're young or old, seeker or believer, and I have greatly enjoyed this Bible for several reasons. First the NLT is great for its plain language and tendency to use the "thought-for-thought" approach where the literal translation is unclear. Although the NLT (or any translation for that matter) is perhaps best incorporated into a study approach that uses several translations to gain wider comprehension, it is also well suited for personal devotional reading for those put off by more rigid or outdated translations of scripture, or just looking for a fresh perspective. The other great thing about this Bible are the notes (written by pastor Greg Laurie, if I'm not mistaken), which go a long way to help interpret and apply the scripture to everyday life (especially for those who are may be unfamiliar with exegetical/hermenutical principles). The commentary is divided for study tracks based on common questions/topical concerns, and would make a great guide for small group or individual study. I give it four stars, instead of five, only because some of the study notes don't address certain "problem" areas of scripture that even the casual reader might have obvious questions about; otherwise highly recommended!

It's a Bible, all right.,

5 stars if you just buy every edition of the Bible, 1 star if you are looking for new scholarship or commentary that is fresh and original. While the "thirst" gimmick is cute, serious readers are advised to go elsewhere for their scripture. Those who greatly enjoy feel-good epigrams will love it. Good for young people or others who need a smooth intoduction to the Bible. |
