5.0 out of 5 stars Apocrypha
I feel that this is a more complete version of the Holy Bible. The English is easy to follow and understand. 3.0 out of 5 stars Your basic pew copy
This is a hard cover pew copy NRSV bible. I got it in order to re-read the bible without having to slog through the KJV's archaic english. This copy contains apocrypha in a seperate section, like maccabees, tobit, sirach, etc. It has the "Presented To" front page like most bibles do, with Psalm 119:105 quoted. There are two maps, one of the land of Israel/Palestine...

5.0 out of 5 stars Apocrypha, May 14, 2009
This review is from: Holy Bible: New Revised Standard Version With The Apocrypha And The Deuterocanonical Books (Hardcover)
I feel that this is a more complete version of the Holy Bible. The English is easy to follow and understand. The Apocrypha is what caught my attention, and that's why I feel this a more complete version. I didn't grow up knowing what the Apocrypha was. I've read that it was just over 120 years ago that the Apocrypha was removed from the Bible. Before then the Bible contained 80 books, not 66. For exampel, the original 1611 King James Version, as well as the 1795 updated version, contained the Apocrypha. This particular New Revised Standard Version is a wonderful way of opening the mind to different books of the Bible, that is, for those not familiar with these books, and for those seeking a more modern English translation.

Our layreaders, or lecterns, as well as our priests in the church I attend read this version of the Holy Bible during the service. I also happend to notice that, while I was kneeling at the altar for Communion, the Bible read during the service contains the Apocrypha. The New Revised Standard Version is easy to understand and fits in with today's modern English language. God bless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Product like brand new, October 9, 2008
This review is from: Holy Bible: New Revised Standard Version With The Apocrypha And The Deuterocanonical Books (Hardcover)
I am involved in a Bible study at my church. This is the second study that talks about the Apocrypha and other books of the Bible that are not in the regular versions. I am glad to have this for a reference for my studies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Fit, September 20, 2010

I needed a Bible that would be the same size as my Holy Quran, Maulana Muhammad Ali translation and this is a perfect fit. Now I can go through the Torah and highlight the words of Allah as well as the Apocrypha books, and the books of the prophets. I just wish that this print had the words of Jesus in red, so that I wouldn't have to use up a few highlighters doing it myself. But other than that, this book gets the job done and I'm not disappointed at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful gift, for yourself or someone else, July 7, 2011

This review is from: Holy Bible: New Revised Standard Version With The Apocrypha And The Deuterocanonical Books (Hardcover)
As someone relatively new to the Faith I was overwhelmed by the vast selection of Bibles out there. It took me several months of shopping and research both on and off of the internet before I made my purchase. The binding and exterior of this Bible are very well made and are holding up to a great deal of use. The book presents well and just inside there's a page designed for gifting it. The pages are typically thin, but not so thin that the words from the back of the page interfere with reading. The footnotes are unobtrusive while still being an easily readable font size. I'm now using the book in my Bible study class as well as at home where my husband and our three children use it for reference.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Done, September 1, 2011

It's hard to review a Bible. This one I ordered for the books of the Apocrypha. This gives the reader a bit more to read, study, and learn from. In the Apocrypha you find the origins of Chanukah, the possible whereabouts of the Ark of the Covenant, (Sorry, Indiana!)and many other points of great interest. This type of Bible is a "must" for biblical scholars, as it adds dimension to what you think you already know.

I grew up in a Protestant family, so I had never read the extra books until I bought this Bible. They are so great! Daniel blows up a dragon with cakes! It would be nice if the book had a concordance and was more sturdily bound, but I still like it a lot.

This is a complete Biblical text. Now I don't have to get lost during the reading at mass. It is worth having in a collection.
