This album has not only changed my perception of "christian" music, but also has changed my life.....I have been learning so much about God and even started going to church. It has impacted me like that and encourages me everyday to live right (the holy culture). I feel like I better understand God and thank him for music that is being put out there, like the Cross Movement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hip Hop can be a "Holy Culture", May 1, 2003
This review is from: Holy Culture (Audio CD)
Oh..my...GOD! This CD is off the chain! Cross Movement definitely represents Christian living in a culture dominated by hip hop (and some said it wouldn't last). Rap music (not hip hop) dominates the charts today, but relies on danceable sounds, excessive talk of material, and misuse of women to sell albums. "Holy Culture" proves you can live "in" this world but not be "of" this world, i.e., maintain a life in Christ while not getting caught into the trappings of this world.

I've been a CM fan since the beginning and I can attest that though they're beats have gotten better and have grown to rival "commercial" hip hop artists, their message has remained the same - JESUS (they even say so on a song off of their "House of Representatives" album). Some may think them to be preachy, but they break their messages down in "bite size pieces" so all can comprehend.

Even though all the songs are tight on their own merit, the ones that stand out are:

"Holy Culture" - This song is the opener and pretty much sums up the whole disc. It's spoken almost in prose - spoken word - format. Real tight.

"In Not Of" - Would would Jesus say if he rocked Tims and Girbauds...? CM lets 'em know!

"Cry No More" - This song was on one of the Left Behind movies. Nice straight forward song offering hope to those facing crises in their life.

"Rise Up" - The beat is HOT! The message - HOTTER!

"Closer To You" - Imagine God telling you he's trying to get your attention and wants to be your #1 love. This is one of the songs he would sing. This song struck a nerve with me.

"Eternal Cypha" - Definitely the "posse cut" of the year, without the cursing and shout-outs. The CM share the mic with some up-and-coming artists who seem to be able to hold their own over a tight beat.

To get a true understading of The Cross movement, I strongly recommend: Heaven's Mentality, House of Representatives, Human Emergency and the Ambassador's Christology: In Laymens Terms (another 5-star album).

It's good to know men of God can stand for what they believe and offer no apologies. Keep up the good work brothas! I'm a fan for (eternal) life!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's finally out !!!!!!!!, May 5, 2003

It took awhile, but it's finally out.....and I am NOT disappointed !!!!!!!!! You won't be either...believe that!
No matter who you are or where you are in your walk with the Lord.....it WILL bless you and inspire you.
Cross movement is by far the best christian hip hop artists out there.......but not just for their flow or how they spit those powerfull Words of God, but because they are not ashamed to say the truth...pleasing those with "itching ears". The album is Hot....I am pleased to hear more "radio friendly" cuts on this album than before, just don't expect some watered down lyrics like most christian mc's ....CM has not strayed from what has made them leaders of this holy hip hop culture...their message, and with tracks like; " RISE UP", "FREE", "IN NOT OF",
"CRY NO MORE", "START SOMETHIN'",AND "CLOSER TO YOU".....you won't go through any buyer's remorse. In fact, those 6 songs I just mentioned.... rival anything and I mean anything ! on secular stations and MTV. If there is any CD to listen too in front of some secualr cats...it would be this one ! There is only 3 songs out of 15 on this album that I wasn't feeling as much....but that's just me.....and normaly on most albums....I'd be lucky to find 3 I'd like...let alone 15 great tracks that I could listen to again and again, like on this album. These cats are REAL and live the "holy culture".....now hear it for yourself! ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars A Precedence has been established!!!, April 23, 2003

Another job well done by the CM crew. CM continues to bring the Word like no other by using the medium of rap to deliver message of Christ and holiness. I've tried to listen to other Christian Rap artist, even made mistakes by buying other artist, but I find myself being entertained and not ministered to. I have several of the CM's works and there is no doubt in who and what they believe (the lyrics come directly from the Word of God). CM continues to reaffirm how good God is by using them to minister to other catagory of listeners without holding back the truth of Christ and Holiness. A must buy. Be blessed and Stay Encouraged.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is God-Inspired!, June 13, 2003
This review is from: Holy Culture (Audio CD)
The Cross Movement's new album Holy Culture is the first rap album I have ever heard by a Christian group that really brings it. Its very encouraging and challenging. These guys are awesome. They are real and have a real heart for God. They don't hold anything back and throw some hard-hitting punches at the rap industry and about urban life. This is the rap album of the year hands down.

If you like rap or want to hear some amazing music by God-fearing artists, this is a must-have! This is the most inspring album I have listened in a long while!

The Cross Movement will be blessed by their faithfulness!

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!, September 13, 2006

These dudes keep it hot with every release. This is THE cd that finally made me see that Gospel Rap can sound better than Non-Gospel Rap. This Dudes Can Actually Rhyme, the production is Outstanding. I was like "What?" Their content is also very Christian! Many so-called Christian Rappers out there compromise their message to the point that you can't tell it's Christian anymore. Not The Case Here! Somehow, they manage to make scripture sound cool. Don't know how they do it man! Talented group of guys here. You will hear the name Jesus, You will Hear scripture, you will love it! Definitely worth the purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Representin' the Hardest, April 24, 2004
By
Alan (Fort Worth, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Holy Culture (Audio CD)
The Cross Movement are among the most talented hip-hop artists I've ever heard. With this fourth group album release, they continue to show that those talents are Spirit-filled and annointed, as they rip raw rhymes for Christ over hard-hitting beats. The production on this album has made a huge leap from their last three; there is a lot more variety in the styles of music, instead of several beats sounding similar like on past albums. Lyrically, the Ambassador, the Tonic, the Phanatik, and TRULIFE stick to the same script of their past efforts - which is a good thing. For those of you who believe Christian rap is one-dimensional and uninteresting, I dare you to check out these cats. They have a song for every occassion, from personal testimonies to praise songs that make you bounce and get crunk. It is hard to distinguish any standout tracks because they are all so wonderful. "Free," "Cry No More," and "Eternal Cypha" are my personal favorites, although I rarely listen to the CD without playing it from start to finish. For Christians, like myself, who are constantly looking for a holy alternative to secular hip-hop, these guys are blessed and by far the best I've heard. Their lyrics are creative and clever, yet remain 100% true to the Word of God in every way. For hip-hop fans who might not be Christian but need something new, I would advise and challenge you to give this CD a listen. You will respect the skills and enjoy the beats as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Quality, May 6, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Holy Culture (Audio CD)
This CD is simply awesome. I am a fan of Xzibit, 50 Cent, and Jurassic 5, and was not sure that a christian band like the Cross Movement could make comparable music, but i was wrong.
There is plenty of variety of songs on this CD. Some of the songs such as "Driven" and "Rise up" (both of which are great) have a middle eastern twist to them. The opening song "Holy Culture" is excellent, and most of the other songs are also good. For those of you who don't believe that a christian rap band can make good music, just give this one a try. This is good music combined with quality lyrics, and is a job well done.
Just buy this one and enjoy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars To know the Culture is to Love HIM, April 25, 2004
This review is from: Holy Culture (Audio CD)
This was the first group to really get me away from secular rap. With tight beats and Biblicly correct lyrics the Cross Movement is truly one of the best Christian rap groups; scratch that they are the best rap group Christian or secular I've heard. If you do not own an Cross Movement cd then I would suggest that you get one so you can truely be blessed. It changed my view I know it will change yours too. Get it!!!! One love One God
