One of the most underrated lyricists and all-around performers in rock, Jerry Joseph is his usual self.

5.0 out of 5 stars You NEED this CD!, July 4, 2004
By
soundstream79 (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Holy Happy Hour (Audio CD)
'Stockholm Syndrome' is the perfect name for this supergroup of sorts, because whether you are captivated by them through a straight listen of "Holy Happy Hour," or you're sweating it out in a hot room with them this summer on their U.S. tour, by the end of your time with this band, they've completely won you over. This masterpiece is brought to us by the songwriting team of guitarist and vocalist, Jerry Joseph (of the Jackmormons) and bassist, Dave Schools (of Widespread Panic). Joseph is truly a great prolific underground American songwriter with a burning voice that delivers his poetry with earnest passion, and Schools lays down an awesome groove throughout a musically diverse bag of gems, always adding an extra layer of sound by playing the bass as a lead instrument and producing the album beautifully. This CD rocks heavily at times, lightly at others, it ventures into reggae, bossa nova, and all kinds of fun, happy, angry, introspective, spiritual places. It's always smart, and its always good music. With the combination of Eric McFadden (Funkadelic) on guitar and mandolin, Wally Ingram on drums, and Danny Dzuik from Germany on keyboards, the musicianship is impeccable, but more importantly, the chemistry is smokin'! The cleverly selected cover of the 70's Brit-Pop hit "Couldn't Get it Right," (originally by 'The Climax Blues Band') is uplifting and infectious. Buy this CD, see them live, explore the immense body of music that Jerry Joseph has recorded in years past. This is rock music that you're sorry you're missing.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Spectacular Debut and an Instant Classic!!!!!!, July 2, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Holy Happy Hour (Audio CD)
What do you get when you mix a little bit of Panic with a shot of P-Funk, the vocals and guitar of Jerry Joseph, throw in a classically trained keyboardist and mix it all together with the ripping drums of Wally Ingram of El Rayo X and Dave Lindley fame? You get an album that is a pure treat and hell of a lot of fun! It's hard to believe this is Stockholm's first album and hopefully it will not be their last. The band's ability to capture so many different sounds on one cd (including one of the great stealth cover songs of all time) is a tribute to each of the band member's killer talent and musical ability. A Panic fan, P-Funk fan, Lindley fan, a Jerry Joseph fan? ...it doesn't matter...if you like rock and roll ...then you will love this album! AND...... If you think this album is good......Just wait till you see these guys LIVE!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Awesome!, January 29, 2006

Knowing that it was Jerry Joseph and Dave Schools, I had a feeling this was going to be good. But, the reality did not prepare me for the experience of this ensemble. This is one of the MUST HAVE CD's for anyone into the alternative=jam band=rock sounds.

SIMPLY AWESOME BADASSERY!
