This review is from: Holy Molar: Dentist the Menace (DVD)
Holy Molar's pseudo-documentary "Dentist the Menace" takes its title from the band's penchant for dressing up in dental garb and surgical masks while performing. This DVD has a credit inside the oddly-designed jewel case that reads "Created By: Strictly Amateur Films," and believe me, that's no lie. The DVD features the worst interactive setup I've ever seen, and the content, while evidently trying to be noisy, hardcore, and shocking, is inane and boring. The DVD starts off with a little something called "Mitchapalooza" which is nothing more than home video of a guy's birthday party at his mom and dad's house complete with action shots of the pool table and a table of party subs and condiments. Don't miss the band singing a rousing rendition of "Happy Birthday."

The DVD goes on to show actual musical performances (they seem to play a lot of people's basements,) if your definition of music includes atonal noise. Beyond that there are "interviews" which center on how much people hate the band (not that I don't sympathize.) A sample interview question and response goes like this: "Tell me what you think of the Holy Molar dude."..."Uhhhhhhh."

I have to give the band one thing: they have a great name, and so does the DVD. They also have a CD with the wholly appropriate title "Cavity Search," no doubt because that's a procedure you'd be happy to undergo to avoid listening to the music. This is incredibly amateurish (at least they were honest) but for a group who tries to shock, the DVD commits the ultimate and unpardonable offense: it's boring.
