Book Description

April 1, 1998
This well written book presents a group of people, in St. Petersburg (former Leningrad), Russia, who call themselves 'The Free Body Culture Society'. Filled with large color photographs of the men, women and children who make up this 'Society', this book brings the unique group to life for the reader. Concerned with the health of their environment, the Free Body Culture Society Members are also the founders of the Russian Green Party. They spend their social time enjoying ancient 'Rus' festivals, sunny days at the beach and Russia's famous 'white nights' around the bonfire. Some events photographed in this book include: 3 females in the country, Children's Day at the beach, Ivana Kupala (The Night of Love), and a Naturist Wedding. As well, their are interviews of the photographer, Mikhail Rusinov, and child naturist, Alla.

"Holy Nature is exactly a 'healing force', a revitalized and intelligent movement that looks backwards for its roots while looking forward toward its independence. And who would not wish to share in that? What could be better than to bask benea th the warm summer sun among friends and neighbors, share a family picnic and watch children at play, the long somber night far behind and cool, refreshing waves of a crystal clear lake lapping at one's feet? We should all be so lucky." ---Pennfield Jensen, from the "Introduction."

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice, January 4, 1999

Finally, a nudist documentary with intelligent text and great full page color photographs of the people. Reminds me of the Naturist movement in the U.S. in the 50's and 60's -- liberal and idyllic (only this Naturist Movement dates back thousands of years.)

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a book about freedom,of mind,body and spirit., October 10, 1999
This review is from: Holy Nature: A Celebration of Naturism in Today's Russia (Paperback)
I think all people should see this book and read it.This book is about people being free, real freedom. Its about the connection between ourselves and our earth.Maybe after 200 years some Americans have forgotten what freedom is,we could relearn it from these people. In this book we find beauty, unharnessed, that inherant beauty of all people young and old.Mike Rusinov is a artist and this is his artwork.I think his work rates with all the greats,Sturges,Hamilton,Stanaman etc... I highly recommend this book for those interested in learning about freedom of mind and body.

I was simply disappointed. The photographs are nice. How can you go wrong with photographs of people - especially nudes. Always interesting, always beauty. But if you are drawn to buy this book with any intellectual curiosity regarding Russia, Nudism, aethetics .. I suspect you will be diappointed. There is very little text, very little thought expressed, as is implied in some of their marketing.
