A MASTERPIECE! FULL OF HEART AND SOUL!,
By Steven Hancock (Winston Salem, NC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: O Holy Night (Audio CD)
This is one of the greatest Christmas albums ever recorded. John Berry is one of country music's greatest artists. And now he adds his vocals to some of the greatest songs ever written about the birth of Christ our Lord. Berry's version of "O Holy Night" is the greatest version ever recorded of my all time favorite Christmas song! If the rest of the album was bad (which it's nowhere near bad), I would keep it just for "O Holy Night." I believe that everybody should listen to this record. It really gets you in the spirit of what Christmas is all about. Grade: A+

Country Artist that shines & sings the reason of the season!,
By SandyP, Country Music Columnist @ BellaOnline.com (Nashville, TN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: O Holy Night (Audio CD)
Although John has had moderate success as a Country Music artist without a doubt he is best known, in general, for this Christmas album. When the album was released in 1995 (CD was released in 1997), it immediately made a presence on the music charts and fan's collections! In what I like to think as the Showdown of who sings "O Holy Night" better, John or Martina McBride.... it's John that wins in my book. John has this wonderful raspy, smoky voice that allows him to get to the lower notes while reaching and obtaining the high notes on "O Holy Night." John sings the traditional Christmas classics such as "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and "Little Drummer Boy." This CD has more of the Christian influence and music than Martina's which makes both a great companion set! John's country twang is heard on all of the songs but you don't get the impression that it's a Country album. This CD is perfect for a Christmas Eve dinner, celebration, or just to get you in the real spirit and reason of the season! If you need to listen to any song sample for proof that this CD will remain a favorite, listen to "O Holy Night" or "O Come All Ye Faithful."

Perfect,
This review is from: O Holy Night (Audio CD)
If you only scrape up enough money to buy one Christmas CD...make it this one.And if you listen to John's version of "O Holy Night" and don't break into tears or get a chill down your spine, then there might be something very wrong with you :) Incredible perfection.
