Product Description

Gin Wigmore's eagerly anticipated debut album `HOLY SMOKE' was released in her native New Zealand (Double Platinum) and Australia (nearing Gold) and will follow here in the States March 16th. Recorded in Los Angeles with a `dream team' of production and musician talents, Gin's album represents the latest chapter in a story which began back in her home town of Auckland, New Zealand.

After months preparing to record her album, songwriting alone and with Martin Terefe (Jason Mraz, KT Tunstall, James Morrison), Dan Wilson (Dixie Chicks, Semisonic), Mitchell Froom (Crowded House) and Mike Elizondo (Eminem, 50 Cent, Gwen Stefani, Fiona Apple), Gin once again packed her bags and headed across the Pacific to commence recording in April.

At the helm of `HOLY SMOKE' is Grammy® nominated producer Mike Elizondo (Alanis Morissette, Fiona Apple, Nelly Furtado, Maroon 5) and vocals were recorded at his Phantom Studios in Westlake Village, Los Angeles.

Performing on `HOLY SMOKE' are the highly successful and renowned The Cardinals (of Ryan Adams & The Cardinals fame). Full band tracking and the majority of the vocals were laid down at the legendary Capitol Studios. Gin will be touring the U.S. (with The Cardinals on select dates) in March/April. Confirmed for SXSW

Gin voice is unlike anything I've listened to in the past. To me it's very infrequent to find artists that cut new teeth and set a style all their own. She is definitely talented and entertaining.

I bought this CD on a whim because I like Amy Winehouse, Lilly Allen, Florence and the Machines, etc. and I loved it!! She has a great raspy voice and lyrics similar to Amy Winehouse but you can really rock out to most of the songs. I almost never like every single song off an album, I think I could only name about 10 or 15 that I have and Holy Smoke is one of them. If you like Amy Winehouse you will like Gin Wigmore even more!!

I hadn't heard of Gin Wigmore before a friend showed me the video of "Hey, Ho". I was initially drawn to this album for the first two tracks... and they are fantastic. Over time, the entire album grew on me as well, and there's not a bad song in the bunch. Her voice is unique, and I never tire of it. While the first two tracks are very upbeat other songs are slower. Yet they are equally compelling in their own way. Now I only wish I had the chance to see her in concert.

If you like Amy Winehouse, Shivaree, Teisha Helderson, Poe, or similar vocalists, check this album out. I find it in very regular rotation and I don't get tired of listening to it.

I ordered this CD because I heard the catchy song on the Home Depot TV advertisement. I was so suprised to find I REALlY liked the rest of the songs on the CD. She has a great upbeat powerful voice.

We say Gin with Jamie Cullum at Chateau St Michelle in Woodland, WA last night and bought her album on the spot. Great show, amazing voice and full of spunk, that girl is! Sounds along the lines of Adele, whom I adore, but with a rockabilly feel. Buy this album! It's great!

If you're a fan of Gin Wigmore's music, this album won't disappoint. The driving rhythms, soulful wail, and sharp edges are all there. "Oh My" and "Don't Stop" were particular highlights for me, but there is much here to love.

She is very versatile and talented she has a sound that channels Adele and Amy Winehouse. Then she also has a rock sound as well. There's something for everyone I am very pleased with this one and look forward to hearing lots more from this artist in the future. It helped that I heard Hey Ho on the Weeds series and had to check this one out after that. Glad I did and would recommend this one to anyone if you like good music.

Despite (reasonable) comparisons to Amy Winehouse & others, Wigmore's albums deserve to be judged on their own merits. Lots of driving, catchy tunes. "Oh My" is a standout; there are several other good cuts.

My big caution: Make sure you like the sound of her voice. It won't work for everyone.
