Book Description

December 29, 2004
Nearly three years after 9/11, the war on terror is far from over. In fact, a leading terrorism expert argues that despite the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the efforts of the Department of Homeland Security, we’re not really any safer at all.

Harvey Kushner, a respected adviser to the FBI, the FAA, the INS, and other government agencies, offers frightening new evidence of a unified Islamic terrorist network that is operating inside the United States and planning new opportunities to strike.

Kushner identifies and assesses the violent plans of these Islamic organizations and individuals who take advantage of our reluctance to engage in ethnic profiling. He supports his claims with never-before-seen documents from top-level government sources, exposing a secret network of Arab intelligence agencies, terrorists, university professors, corrupt imams and other religious leaders, and violent criminals.

Some members of this network are recent immigrants; others have been American citizens for years. Some are laundering money from abroad through seemingly innocuous charities and mosques. Some have even infiltrated our military as Arabic translators and Muslim chaplains.

Finding and stopping these conspiracies will require drastic changes in the way Americans think about terrorism. Kushner’s proposals will spark a lively but essential debate about homeland security, civil liberties, immigration, law enforcement, and our nation’s most basic values and ideals.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Kushner, a Long Island University professor of Criminal Justice and Security Administration and a federal government counter terrorism adviser, blames the Clinton administration, the "liberal media" and political correctness for creating what he sees as a climate that fostered a vast, "secret Islamic network" of Muslim terrorists operating within American borders. In finger-pointing, accusatory prose, Kushner attacks Clinton, the ACLU and anyone else with PC leanings for allowing Islamic terrorist operations to gain a foothold on these shores, primarily through universities, mosques, Muslim charities and the prison system. Kushner singles out Democrats and liberals for blame, and praises President Bush and Republicans, even though he contends the secret terror network continues to operate today. The fault lies squarely, he says, with liberals of all stripes who speak out against such anti-terrorism tactics as the Patriot Act and law enforcement's use of racial profiling. "The only explanation as to why we continue to ignore the secret Islamic terror network in America is that the demands of political correctness have made us so afraid of being branded racists that we force ourselves to be color blind, identity blind and gender blind till we end up, quite simply, totally blind," Kushner says. Aside from its author's overt partisanship, this short book's other main failing is that it appears that the authors did nearly all of their research on the Internet. Virtually all of the endnotes cite Web sites. While there is a large amount of well-documented, credible information on the World Wide Web, the net is also the home of a vast amount of misinformation, unverifiable information, myth and propaganda, and some may find Kushner's sources to be poor basis for such strong claims.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unpleasant dose of reality, April 19, 2005

This review is from: Holy War on the Home Front: The Secret Islamic Terror Network in the United States (Hardcover)
I teach a course in terrorism in a southwestern university. I find Kushner's text to be one of the most valuable books that I assign. My students are invariably stunned when they read this book. It exposes the reader to some extremely unpleasant truths about our government, our media, and our refusal to look reality square in the face. If you want to understand what is really going on in the world today, read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should be read by all Americans, March 7, 2005
This review is from: Holy War on the Home Front: The Secret Islamic Terror Network in the United States (Hardcover)
Harvey Kushner has been in the business of anlyzing terrorists and terrorist activity for many years. I, too, have some experience in the matter. Kushner is a master at synthesizing a complex matter in a form that can be widely disseminated. Holy War on the Home Front is an excellent book of FACT, of what is heppening here and now, that the target of the exercise, Muslim terrorists, Muslim supporters of terrorists, anti-west Muslim extremists, and others of the same ilk will try to defame.

Holy War documents a number of problematic issues that have been festering WITHIN the United States for some years now. Rather than hide our collective, politically correct, head in the sand, as does the ACLU, et al, it is time for Americans in general, and those in power specifically, to recognize the very real threat within our own borders.

Kushner has taken a subject matter that has been a political "hot potato", certianly since September 11, 2001, and layed it out for all to see. As recent history has proven time and again, regardless of their "American citizenship", there are numberous elements within the American Muslim community that would do us harm, or support those who would do us harm, and Americans need to be made aware of the threat.

Kushner and others have taken a first step towards that necessary awareness about knowing the enemy in our midst - a step that logic says should be unnecessary after the murderous 9-11 attack by Muslim fanatics.

Holy War is an excellent book written by a man who has the knowledge and expertise. It needs to be read by all Americans.

5.0 out of 5 stars In Defense of Holy War, February 3, 2005
By
Save Willy (Cabot, VT USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Holy War on the Home Front: The Secret Islamic Terror Network in the United States (Hardcover)
The reviewer named Willy who stated that Holy War "is the dryest and most poorly written one [book] I have read in a long time" is dead wrong. Moreover, his/her assertion that Kushner "throws around so many arabic names that you have no idea who he is talking about from one parapgraph [sic] to the next" is untrue. And that "[t]he individual actions of the terrorists don't amount to much and you wonder what the big deal is" indicates that Willy might be soft on terrorism, don't you think.

In point of fact, Holy War is the first book to cut through the impossible to follow Arabic names and acronyms and leave the reader with a clear understanding of the links between Islamic groups and individuals. From universites to charities to mosques, Kushner documents and demonstrates relationships. He does this without pointing fingers at the group but rather separates out those individuals who give the larger group a bad name. He targets problematic individuals and terrorists. His documentation is strong and refute it if you can.

No other book presents information (not speculation)as Kushner does on a secret Islamic terror network operating inside the United States. Why are we afraid to state that we are at war with Militant Islam. Why? Well, I agree with Kushner when he writes, "The only explanation as to why we continue to ignore the secret Islamic terror network in America is that the demands of political correctness have made us so afraid of being branded racists that we force ourselves to be color blind, identity blind, and gender blind till we end up, quite simply, totally blind."
