5.0 out of 5 stars Holyfield book can give positive outlook on life to anyone, September 11, 1997

This review is from: Holyfield : The Humble Warrior: The Humble Warrior (Hardcover)
I usually don't read non-fiction but I am a huge boxing fan and a big fan of Evander also. The reason I orinally admired Evander was his determination and lack of fear and I also share his beliefs in many areas of life.I read this book wanting to get a better idea of his beliefs. I think this book will apeal to someone even if they are not a fan of boxing or sports in general. It gives you the story of Evander and his family growing up and the hardships they had to go through. He grew up without a father and was raised by his mother and grandmother. His mother always had a positive outlook on life and gave every thing she had to raise a good family. Evander started boxing at an early age and was given little chance to go far. When growing up he always turned to his faith and you will read how he got through his divorce and loss of his older brother and his mother.you'll also read why he is one of the few people not to be intimidated by Mike Tyson. This book will show people where to find strength when it seems all hope is lost.I also recomend it to any younger person because I believe Evander Holyfield to be the most positive role model in the world today. This book can be helpful for anyone who is suffering from an illness.Evander returned to boxing after having serious heart problems.I think this book can be valuble to anyone who reads it

2.0 out of 5 stars He Loves his Brother, March 15, 2010

There are a few interesting antidotes in this but it was written by Holyfields Brother. I'm sure he meant well but its seemingly written as a tribute more so than an objective biography. It goes up until the time preceding his first fight with Tyson so its also outdated. Holyfield really shouldn't be fighting anymore but even though he's pushing 50 and has been through many out and out wars in the ring he continues on. I saw him being interviewed on CNN recently about how he's converting his ridiculous 54,000 square foot, 109 room, 17 bathroom mansion/estate into being as "green" as possible and he didn't sound very good. Even though he could still beat a lot of guys that are out there he should have hung them up a long time ago.
