1.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, but 'bearly' works June 6, 2012
Pattern Name:Bear
I have to wonder about this product, like maybe there are slight (but horribly significant) inconsistencies in production. This looks incredibly cool on my pergola, but is nearly useless in it's primary function. I've had this for over a year, and have grown to hate it, as it seems to have become even harder to produce an open bottle with (maybe the metal is too soft?). It's become almost impossible to even get the jaws to engage the cap (they just slip off), and other reviewers are correct: if you hook it under the upper incisors and pull down, you will get great engagement, but will only snap off the neck of your bottle. The correct method is to use the lower incisor to pull up, but as I said, the teeth rarely engage correctly without a lot of mis-starts and fudging around. An exercise in frustration, this sends me over to the old, rusty, but perfectly engineered Coca Cola-styled opener by my barbecue. Just writing this review made me angry, and I'd dismount it and toss it in the river, except then I'd have to fill the unsightly screw holes, and paint the pergola. I wish I'd never been born, and it's all the fault of the producer of this horrible (but still pretty cute) devise. Be warned...

Opener (if you want to call it that) looks really cool, BUT it doesn't open a bottle.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quirky but popular October 13, 2011
By Maggie
Pattern Name:Bear|Amazon Verified Purchase
The function of this opener is counter intuitive.
Guest sometimes require training.
The bottle is put in vertically, and pulled up.
(most american standard go in horizontal and pull down to open)
But that seems to make it all the more fun.
And UCLA Alum love the bear motif.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome fun!
I spray painted mine a different color but it's a great item! I made it a focal point not just a bottle opener! Bad side effect, I drink more beer now just to use it!

3.0 out of 5 stars cute
The bottle opener was really heavy. Maybe good for a paper weight. Perhaps a head honcho in the 1950s with all of his bottles of scotch, smoking cigarettes, can use it to knock out... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars funny
I bought this as a gag gift for my dad and it was a hit with my family. The bottle opened itself is actually upside down, but that made it ever funnier to my family. Read more

I'm not sure how this accessory could be any cuter. I saw it featured in a magazine and the actual product was exactly as I anticipated.
