5.0 out of 5 stars Why pay more??? Use this tape box.
Hello:

I like this tape box. Always plan on doing about 10 seams with a full mud box and keep it clean. It is worth the money and saves a step in the spackle process. I had to add a little bit of super glue to the black knob; other than that, it works great. It uses paper tape only, which is best. This is not a corner tape box.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works good but!, August 2, 2008
This review is from: Homax 6500 Drywall Taping Tool (Tools & Home Improvement)
The taping tool showed up in a beat up box that was made of thin cardboard. There is an adjustment knob that controls how much mud is applied with the tape that was broken off when I opened the box. I superglued it but after a hour it broke again. Later I epoxied it and it worked until it fell off the scaffold and landed on the point where the tape comes out and it broke again. Expoxied it again and finished the job. The tool works good when it's not broken. Just be careful with it. Also, Menards sells it for $38.00. No shipping problems that way.

After reading other reviews, I ordered the unit. As with others the adjustment knob was broken. Not having time due to the job that I was doing I tryed to glue the knob. Glue did not hold. The unit full of mud, I had to stop and clean the unit before I could repair the knob. I drilled out the center and installed a screw to hold the knob, this let me finish the job.

Now it's sitting in the trailer collecting dust.

I would not buy this one I would keep looking. There are some metal units out there that with a few more money that this one.

In short, If you need something to tape sheetrock, well, keep going, not this one, it will let you down about half way through the job.

My least favorite part of drywall is the mud & tape phase. I've done a ton of home remodeling projects involving drywall, but have never been able to get the tape to bed correctly. I'm always ending up with bubbles, tape peeling, plus it takes hours to get the tape on. I watched my brother-in-law (a professional drywall installer) using a similar product years ago. When I started finishing my basement I searched the internet and found this product. It is fairly inexpensive, so I decided to give it a try. All I can say is WOW! Very simple to operate, tape went on smooth, and the mud bed was extremely consistent. I taped a 15' x 15' room with 9 1/2' ceilings up in about 30 minutes. This easily saved me 3-4 hours of trying to mud & tape by hand. Not only that, but the layer is consistent. Meaning less heavy mud and less sanding. With 5 more rooms to go, I'm definately glad I made the purchase. Worth every penny!

This tool is a great value for the money. This machine is easy to work with. Not having used any sort of taping tool in the past. I followed the directions and did not have to re-accomplish any work where I used this taping tool...just that easy. I would be concerned using it in a commercial environment since it is plastic. I recommend this to any homeowner doing drywall taping.

Worked great. Good tool for a DIY Project. Wouldn't expect it to last for professional use. It's plastic so it won't take the abuse a metal one would.

For the money, this tool did a great job. We're in the process of building a new house. I bought this tool for my husband. He used it to tape all the drywall throughout (1500 square ft home). He said he would not have wanted to tape all that drywall without it. He was very pleased with the Homax. He said he'll be keeping it for future use.
