4.0 out of 5 stars great show, but a few annoyances, October 1, 2010
This review is from: Home (Audio CD)
Pros: The DVD and the concert itself is great. A very high energy show with a very good selection of songs from each of their albums. They even play "Meridion", one of their slower, more epic songs, which had never been played live before this show. I give the performance an A+.

Cons: In my opinion, the camera work as well as the editing could have been a lot better, and the DVD really suffers as a result. The transition between different shots is way too quick and frantic to absorb the performance. It cuts from frame to frame so fast that it feels like visual chaos. It assume that the intention was probably to match it to the music. It was a decent effort, but I ended up nearly nauseated by the end of the first song. It's too busy.

The camera never stays still, and is unsteady throughout. It's constantly zooming in and out and moving around during the already way too short 1 second frame shots, so that you can't focus on anything that's happening, keeping you so visually distracted that you are hard pressed to enjoy the amazing performance.

If it were better edited in the post-production, they might could have salvaged the shoddy camera work to some degree, but again, they made the horrible mistake of making the cuts entirely too short. By the time your eyes and mind are able to focus on the frame on screen (which is nearly impossible with all of the movement), it has already changed to one of the other members or another angle. I like to be able to watch the guitarists playing for a bit or the drummer for a few seconds so that I can enjoy the talent of these guys playing their instruments. As someone who plays instruments myself, that is a big part of the experience and is what I was looking forward to seeing on this DVD. If you're like me and really enjoy watching the finger work of the riffs, or the talented drumming, you will be disappointed. If you want to try and see how riff "X" or a certain drum part is played, good luck. It's pointless to try, because nothing is ever in focus or still for more than a fraction of a second. The whole time I was sitting there watching, all I could think was "slow it down!". It's almost like the camera guys are on crack and the editors had ADD.

The music is fast paced and frantic, but the effort to match the visual style to the music was an epic fail. Nevertheless, the quality of the performance itself is an incentive to get this one, regardless of the cons. The band themselves put on an excellent show, but it's a real shame that the whole thing was botched by the film crew and editors.

I have never had the privilege of seeing these guys play live before, and I was very impressed with their playing. It's clean and they do a great job, proving that these guys are good at what they do and they aren't just a glittered product of heavy ProTools editing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just EXCELLENT!, July 2, 2011

Home is an example of the results you get from practice and love for what you are doing. The sound is awesome, it feels like if you were listening to the actual studio recording of every song, but they are playing LIVE!!!
This is also a great compilation; they really selected the best songs. Enough songs, the crowd engaged in the concert, wow, makes you feel you are there too!! You even get the "On more song! One more song!" jejeje, nice!
The DVD is good, I really expected more from the scenario (I'm very visual) but even though, there are many scenes where you truly see the heart of these guys. Love It!
I would recommend you buy this album, it's worth it to have it in your collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great band, great insight, October 8, 2010
This review is from: Home (Audio CD)
the performances are great, but that was known from seeing a live show and owning the albums. What the DVD shows is that these normal guys, who inspire so many, are just that... normal guys. Fun DVD and inspiring people. Christian or not, this band rocks, and the message makes it even more impressive. In this day in age where peope are judge on how shocking they can be, a well-meaning band (who rocks) is refreshing. GO PHILS!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Home hits home for fans, January 16, 2011

Home is a decent dvd. The sound quality is exceptional on the live set and the set list is expansive. The documentary is average and includes your average band with a camera on the road. As far as the included cd. I have not listened to it. I find it pointless since I would rather just listen to the set list on the dvd.

5.0 out of 5 stars AUGUST BURNS RED LIVE = INSANE!!!!, October 19, 2010
This review is from: Home (Audio CD)
August Burns Red is one of the the best live bands you will ever see and this cd/dvd is proof of just that! They are way heavier and just downright crazy live. This has 15 songs and every one they put the same amount of energy into. You need to get this cd/dvd now or you will be missing out on one of the best live albums ever made.

5.0 out of 5 stars positive Christian metalcore from Amish country, October 14, 2010
This review is from: Home (Audio CD)
August Burns Red brings both brutality and melody to the table on every album. on this live album, which includes a DVD, you can listen to the show on the DVD or the CD, and you can watch the band on tour. like all Solid State bands, August Burns Red does not disappoint. I have yet to hear any metalcore band that is more brutal and melodic than ABR. if you like August Burns Red, I also recommend Thy Will Be Done (from Pennsylvania like ABR), This Or The Apocalypse, Lamb of God, Zao, Killswitch Engage, the Showdown, Becoming The Archetype, Norma Jean, Unearth, Underoath, Demon Hunter, Haste The Day, War Of Ages, For Today, Oh Sleeper, A Plea For Purging, Advent, Inhale Exhale, Trenches, the Ascendicate, the Famine, Gwen Stacy, Outbreak, Fight Paris (aka Stone Rider), First Blood, the Burial, In the Midst of Lions, Thieves and Liars, Whitechapel, Oceano, Earth From Above, A Life Once Lost, Arise And Ruin, Autumn Offering, Kill What I Adore, Red Chord, the Great Commission, the Chariot, Job For A Cowboy, and various other metalcore and deathcore bands, Christian and secular.
