5.0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff
I have never written a review before, but the fact is this is a GOOD CD. The Dixie Chicks have brought blue grass into the 21st century, on their own terms. These are talented musicians, who have refused to conform to the formulas that are dictating much of what is heard on country music stations. 3.0 out of 5 stars Lack of 5.1 Surround sound
I have got the normal cd too. Although I love this album I am a bit disappointed with this edition. I thought there are extra tracks on the cd and a version of the album in 5.1 surround sound on the dvd. It is a shame. It would make my listening experience more enjoyable. However I like the videos on the CD. My favourites are the videos to their songs 'Goodbye Earl' and...

These are talented musicians, who have refused to conform to the formulas that are dictating much of what is heard on country music stations. If you don't buy this CD because Natalie Maine exercised her right of freedom of speech, it is your loss. The video DVD is worth every cent of the extra cost. This is the best of what country music has to offer.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Chicks' CD Yet!, April 6, 2003
This review is from: Home (Bonus DVD) (Special Packging) (Audio CD)
Amazon.com never posted my review on this CD in which I said that it was stupid to not like a group because of their views, so I had to write it again. Maybe they'll post this one! OK, this CD is awesome. It's really good country. Being a non-country listener, it must be good if I like it! I think that the Dixie Chicks are very talented individuals and that their views should not be counted against them. It does not change the fact that this is awesome music! This is a highly recommended CD, and a great purchase! ENJOY!

Make that:

4.5 Stars

I'm no big-time Dixie Chicks fan, but this CD is moving me in that direction. It's an excellent collection of songs and it is very timely. I'm no dove, but I'm concerned about the coming war in Iraq and many of these tunes talk clearly to my worries. There's a big variety of music, stylisitically, from the country-rock of "Long Time Gone" to the bluesy folk of "Travelin' Soldier". My personal favorite is "I Beleive In Love". It's words just ring loud in my ears, poised as we are on the verge of delivering many tons of hate on the other side of the planet.

I don't really care what was said about Bush being from Texas - I believe in free speech. But it will probably hurt the group's popularity and CD sales. The DVD included in this version is a mixed bag, but is entertaining. The scenery, wardrobe and makeup used in "Landslide" struck me as a bit bizarre, but "Earl" alone makes the purchase of the special edition worthwhile.

Overall, the playing and singing are excellent. This is a very talented band. The recording quality is very good, but some of the vocals are overly sibilant. This is the main quality that kept me from giving that last 1/2 star. That and the fact that "White Trash Wedding" got old pretty quick.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent from beginning to end, January 7, 2003
This review is from: Home (Bonus DVD) (Special Packging) (Audio CD)
If you are debating on getting just the "Home" CD and this DVD edition, GET THIS EDITION!

The CD is excellent. It doesn't matter if you are a country music fan or not. (I primarily listen to Pop and R&B.) I dare anyone to listen to this album and not feel uplifted by the end. The Dixie Chicks version of "Landslide" is magnificent. My only complaint is that the CD features two versions of a song. However, I can not hear a difference.

The DVD contains 4 music videos. Each is a wonderful presentation. The girls' eyes sparkle like dimonds. Plus, it is nice to see a music video with you various graphics being on the screen like most Music TV programs of today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love The Chicks---One of the best CD's and very cool thing, May 29, 2005
This review is from: Home (Bonus DVD) (Special Packging) (Audio CD)
I love this CD. I love the videos, the music. From what I hear it goes back to their roots of bluegrass, etc. I love it. I already had bought the regular Home CD but when I heard there was another version of the CD out with videos intact I had to have it. I love the Dixie Chicks, you should also check out their live CD as well. They put on a kick butt concert! This is a very cool package

4.0 out of 5 stars More Traditional Chicks, June 15, 2004
This review is from: Home (Bonus DVD) (Special Packging) (Audio CD)
This is the least main-stream oriented album from Dixie Chicks, since Natalie Maines joined them. I liked both "Wide Open Spaces" and "Fly" very much, so at first I was pretty disappointed with this album. There were no "new" "Goodbye Earl" type of songs here. The instrumentation was much more traditional and acoustic than on the two previous albums. But soon several songs really began to grow on me; especially "Travelling Soldier", "More Love", "I Believe in Love", "Godspeed" and "Top of the World" have become favourites.

After having seen their live-dvd performance of the album, I have even come to like the traditional blue-grass type of tracks.

This CD is highly recommendable.

I assume that the bonus-track is the Sheryl Crow produced version of "Landslide" which is good too, though not markedly different - slightly more mainstream.

I didn't realize that I had something special until I logged on to write a review. SPEND the extra money for the bonus DVD edition! It is worth it.

In case you are wondering, my political views do not influence my taste in music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Godspeed. Sweet Dreams., September 23, 2003

My beautiful little 7-year-old nephew died from a brain hemorrhage last month. The touching words and music of "Godspeed" will haunt me forever and always remind me of the sweetest little boy I ever knew: "Godspeed, little man. Sweet dreams, little man. Oh, my love will fly to you each night on angels' wings. Godspeed. Sweet dreams."
