5.0 out of 5 stars Home of the Brave - another winner!, February 8, 2010

This review is from: Home of the Brave (Gone for Soldiers - Volume 3) (Kindle Edition)
The Van Buskirk family saga continues with the third installment, Home of the Brave. This book is definitely a sequel to Land of the Free and whereas the first two book of the series could stand alone, Home of the Brave cannot. The reader will be at a serious disadvantage regarding Van Buskirk family relationships without first reading at least Land of the Free.

Home of the Brave picks up the story where Land of the Free ends, several years after the conclusion War of 1812, and brings the reader through the Texas fight for independence from Mexico to the end of the War with Mexico in 1848. Once again the author has walked the tightrope between storyline and historical detail successfully, providing enough detail to paint the historical scenery without obscuring the storyline. Including two detailed and lengthy military reports (are there any military reports that aren't detailed and lengthy?) enhances the reality of the conflict, bringing together all of the actions that occurred during the final days of the war.

Home of the Brave continues a well researched and well written series. Will it be the last? Hopefully not. Mr. Hepple has produced another page turner which should be at or near the top of any historical fiction buff's to-be-read list and the wish is that the saga will continue. With the unknotted threads remaining at the end of the tapestry we can only hope.
