`Home of the Brave', Martha Redbone's debut album is a hit. She has a unique soulful voice and the beats are catchy. I found myself replaying the songs in my head for days. Even with its upbeat tempo, Martha's lyrics are deep and full of meaning. She sings about love, heartbreak, being the `underdog', and life in general. She shows her funky and fun side with the song `Boyfriend'. `Boyfriend' is a humorous song about falling in love with a gay man. It is definitely a song worth listening to. The anthem song, `Underdog' fills your heart with the will to go on, it allows you to let past failure roll off your shoulder. `Liar', my personal favorite, portrays the sting of heartbreak and loneliness. This is definitely one of those CDs that you play all the way through; it has a very sweet flow. I haven't found a song on the album that I would choose to skip over. Her voice is sweet candy to the ear. You will not be able to stop yourself from bopping to the beat. She knocks the socks off Macy Gray. I recommend this album to everyone with a taste for good music. Martha Redbone will be a household name, mark my words.

Martha Redbone is a breath of fresh air! Every song a gem! Martha can be soulful or sophisticated. The arrangements are inovative and fresh, in fact the whole album has an air of creativity, each song having it's own particular theme and pace. Full credit to the musicians and the producer, who did the songs, and Martha's wonderful voice, justice!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, February 6, 2006
By
This review is from: Home of the Brave (Audio CD)
Martha Redbone has an incredible voice. Her music is very versatile, combining soul, rock, jazz and alternative stylings. Her dual heritage (Black and Native American)becomes apparent in her music. Her wide variety of influences comes through on this cd. Her lyrics are thought-provoking and heartfelt. She tackles many themes from relationships to doing "good" in the world. Her tunes are soulful, Like "Free." Popish, with a Parliment/Funkadelic/Brides of Funkenstein aura on "someday we'll be friends." Folksy and Soulful on "liar." And that's just to start. you can put this cd on and listen to song after song and never get bored and find "something" new to love on each cut! If you like Macy Gray, Imani Coppola, Cree Summer, alana davis, ani defranco, you'll like Martha Redbone.

5.0 out of 5 stars DON'T STOP THE MUSIC, January 11, 2004

MARTHA REDBONE'S debut CD HOME OF THE BRAVE is a must add to your music collection. She's a songwriter, producer, and songtress. This woman is multi-talented and after listening to the CD, you'll understand why. She has a very soulful voice. It's hard to categorize her into one genre, so I'll say she's a neo-soul, pop, R & B singer,

SAY YOU LOVE ME, BOYFRIEND and UNDERDOG are my favorite cuts on the CD.
Don't let a good thing past you by, get HOME OF THE BRAVE and relax after a long week.

5.0 out of 5 stars Birth of a Superstar, February 28, 2002

Martha Redbone's debut is very simply the best album I've bought in years. Reminiscent of some of the classic albums of all time like "Songs In The Key Of Life" and "Purple Rain" this artist has it all. Her voice ranges from a sexy whisper to a cathartic roar, a jazzy inflection to a soaring high note, she will surely be ranked alongside Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan and Mary J as one of the great soul singers,.But unlike most young singers she writes great songs. Instantly memorable, beautifully constructed songs that touch on every area of life, from the anthemic "Underdog" an exorcism of life's struggles to the witty riposte to a rich man of "Vineyard" (classic line "So what I'm poor and fertile"!) to a gorgeous and intelligent approach to dying in "Heaven" this girl writes. Love songs from a unique angle, subtle poiltics and at times truly funny stories..this is not your dad's RnB or your current factory product this is the future. The music is deep and textured displaying the influence of everything that's come before it be that 70's soul, Nirvana, hiphop, the Beatles, Miles Davis (check out the hidden bonus track!) and moulding it into a new form, beyond neo-soul, beyond pop (in the great sense of the word) and into a head knodding, butt shaking, brain tweaking musical landscape populated by musicians and even some machines, the perfect blend of old and new!
Martha Redbone will undoubtedly become a household name, I'd get in there early.
