I've heard many people recommend Carrie Akra...so I finally broke down and got ahold of her debut solo cd HOME. The opening notes demanded my attention right away and I listened attentively at every breath and every word Carrie sang...it was bliss! Her songs are catchy, but not in an annoying "pop star" way. She is a truly gifted songwriter and terrific vocalist who has a definite passion for what she's doing! The song "HUMDRUM" and "BLIND" are songs that deserve to be heard by everyone and appreciated for being the masterpieces they are. BUY THIS CD! :-)

"Home" is an uncensored look into the soul of a true artist in search of deeper meaning. Carrie Akre transcends and defies musical stereotypes and preconceptions about herself and her music proving once and for all that she possesses the musical prowess capable of appealing to a wider national audience. Influences of R&B, Hip-Hop, Blues, Jazz & Rock fused together into soulful, sensual sometimes jagged arrangments. Carrie Akre is the original gospel "soulchild".Michael Constantine "The Seekers Garden Network"

Carrie shows that her talent for singing and song writing breaks out of the distorted guitar and crashing symbols of her previous and highly under estimated band Hammerbox. After years of seeing Hammerbox play live, I was very aprehensive to hear a solo album. But after listening to the 9 haunting and often moving tracks my crush has been rekindled with the lead singer. Another album to put on those rainy Sunday afternoons and drink coffee too.Carrie is a very versitale and talented artist whos further endeavours will no doubt be remarkable.

Just a chance listening to 103 The Mountain and this beautiful song came on. Was the artist Carrie Oprey? Okie? LOL Finally found the Cd, ordered it and love it. (With exception of 1) Keep up the song writing & thank you Delilah for playing this talented local artist.

Carrie Ahkre's successful style change,

Hopefully you're already well aquainted with Carrie Ahkre from her now defunct bands, Goodness & Hammerbox. If not, then this is a good opportunity to get familiar with the talented Ms. Ahkre & company (including Garth Reeves and Chris Friel from Goodness). Carrie's strengths are many: talented singer and songwriter, strong live performer. And also, it's a pleasure to say this new music translates well played in a cd player and live. This is a style change from the rock/pop of Goodness. Carrie and her band handle this major departure from their past quite well. This is a soulful, slower paced, bluesier Carrie Ahkre. Enjoy her musical gifts that she shares on "Home".

I saw Carrie over New Year's, and my only complaint about this album is that there are only 9 tracks! Best of luck to Carrie, and everyone watch for her next CD, released August 6, 2002! I can't wait.
