4.0 out of 5 stars A Home for Christmas, December 21, 2009
This review is from: A Home For Christmas (Paperback)
If you are looking for a quick, heartwarming Christmas read, this is the book for you. The story takes place in the small town of Angel Ridge, Tennessee. It is a formulaic romance between Janice, a big-city doctor with family ties to the town, and Blake, a local contractor who lives in her grandparents' former house. The descriptions of the old-fashioned, small town Christmas really evoke the magic of the season and will make you long for a simplier time and place. There could have been more depth to the characters, and there were many loose storylines left unfinished, but as this book is part of a series, perhaps these items will be addressed in a future book. Overall, a lovely quick read for the busy holiday season.

5.0 out of 5 stars A true romance novel with a heartwarming story that makes you feel like you really know the characters, September 29, 2010
This review is from: A Home For Christmas (Paperback)
I absolutely loved this book! It had everything a romance novel should have in it. There were interesting characters, clever situations, and a wonderful touching story line. I would definitely recommend this book and can't wait to see what Deborah Grace-Staley comes out with next!

After reading the first book in the Angel Ridge series, Only You, and loving it, I eagerly awaited the release of A Home for Christmas. I was not disappointed. This book is wonderful, and I could not put it down. What a lovely, romantic Christmas tale! I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A TENDER ROMANCE, October 19, 2011
This review is from: A Home For Christmas (Paperback)

Dr. Janice Thornton is in Angel Falls this was where her Grandparents lived where her Mother was born, Janice had not seen much of her grandparents when they were alive her Mother had forbidden it, only twice could she remember being at their home , one time was at Chtristmas when she was ill and her parents left her there while they went on holiday. Now parked outside their old house it still seemd the same to her. When a man emerges from inside it appears he is going to hang some lights up, only he falls off of the ladder, Janice rushes to see if he is injured, that is her first meeting with Blake Ferguson owner of the house. Blake invites Janice to help him hang some lights after she had checked him over and she explained her connection to the house. He invites her back later for dinner, after her appointment that's why she was in Angel Falls today the town Doctor had asked to see her, it turned out he was her uncle, Janice did not remember him but he explained he was hoping to retire and wanted her to take over his practice. All this is a shock to Janice but she has agreed to spend her Christmas holidays with her uncle in the town to think it over. Janice had not had the greatest of upbringings her parents were self absorbed, she has learnt over the years to become self sufficient needing to rely on herself. Blake Ferguson had been a troubled teenager but had turned his life around he was a carpenter by trade and had made a good life. When he and Janice meet sparks fly but Janice is reluctant to take things further with Blake. Of course Blake isn't going to leave things like that he is determined to persuade Janice round to his way of thinking.During Janice's stay in Angel Falls with her uncle she helps him out with the patients getting to meet the residents. This story is a very charming read, the writing is descriptive and it is easy to visualise the surroundings and the characters, all of which are well depicted. A tender and romantic story well worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!!!, October 22, 2011
Being a fan of east TN, I couldn't wait to read this book... I loved the small town feel to it, the characters were so similar to ones I knew when growing up in a small town. I felt right at home. The author brought out the characters so well in her story, and the magical mystery of the angel protecting the town. Although it was a little more "steamy" than what I usually read, I knew I wanted to read more about Angel Ridge. I've gotten the rest of the collection, have finished a 2nd one and am on the 3rd. I would LOVE to live in Angel Ridge!!!

Within a week, the main male character punches a wall in his house, attacks his brother twice, follows the leading female to work and ends up with her in the end. It is this type of book that convinces women that men with severe anger problems can be changed. I finished the book with the hopes that Janice (a physician no less) would find "A Home for Christmas" with her long lost family and not with a man she knew less than a week with anger management problems. Let's see, will book three address wife and child abuse, when she is late coming home or the dog pees on the carpet? The man is 40 years old -- he is a stalker and a very angry man -- please don't find this book romantic! It is a dangerous story line.

3.0 out of 5 stars Serious relationship issues?, January 15, 2012

A young woman, who is also a medical doctor, returns to her mother's home town where she always felt loved. Can she find a place for herself there as an adult? She meets Blake, who has is own issues, but both are drawn to each other right away. The book was good, but seemed to gloss over what I felt were some serious problems. The anger issues were difficult for me to overlook.

The eBook also contained a short story, MY CHRISTMAS ANGEL by Staley, which I felt was bizarre, with a plot that was pretty pointless. Since it was set in the same small town, only in the 1800's, maybe it was just a bit of background for the series???

It is entertaining and just what we need to start celebrating the Holidays. I recommend reading it, the hero is dashing and the heroine is full of spunk.
