5.0 out of 5 stars You So Can Get This At Hallmark
Get this cd now because at the end of this season it's going to go away and you'll have to either buy the import version for almost $30.00 or get it here via the used sellers. I bought this cd for a little over $10.00 and it's worth every cent. This cd contains 10 songs and if you get the Hallmark edition you can download a free track and it'll convert to a mp3 file for...

Apart from Sheryl Crow's always fine vocals and a few very good tracks, there is little of the usual Crow to be found on this Christmas release.

Only two tracks stand out from the predominantly mainstream Christmas moods which characterize this album which really does not sound very inspired.

Get this cd now because at the end of this season it's going to go away and you'll have to either buy the import version for almost $30.00 or get it here via the used sellers. I bought this cd for a little over $10.00 and it's worth every cent. This cd contains 10 songs and if you get the Hallmark edition you can download a free track and it'll convert to a mp3 file for windows or Mac. The songs from this release are "All Through The Night,"
"The Bells Of St. Mary's,"
"Blue Christmas,"
"The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire),"
"Go Tell It On The Mountain,"
"I'll Be Home For Christmas,"
"Merry Christmas, Baby,"
"O Holy Night,"
"There Is A Star That Shines Tonight,"
"White Christmas."
All these songs are arranged accoustic and Sheryl Crow styled rock; a nice departure from the normal holiday fare and of course, nicely sung. I failed to mention the free track is titled "Hello My Friend, Hello" and isn't a cover of Neil Diamond's song but an original.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic. Get it while you can., December 9, 2008

What can I say? If you're looking at this album, you know how good she is and this music is outstanding. Yeah sure, they're mostly old songs you've heard before. But take my word for it, you'll love the arrangements. You need to get this CD at Hallmark right now. It's only 10 bucks. If you don't, you'll have to get the import (for some silly, outrageous price). It's worth 10 bucks. I've got every single song/album/CD/video this woman has ever done. This is one of her best. Nuff Said.

I've been listening to this CD for over a week now and it just gets better and better. Been hoping for a Christmas album by Sheryl for years and this one was worth the wait. Fantastic!

5.0 out of 5 stars An instant classic, December 3, 2008

This is already one of my favorite Christmas CDs. I've been listening to it every day since I bought it last week. If you're a Sheryl Crow fan or just a fan of great Christmas music, you'll want to add this gem to your collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars An Uneven Affair, January 1, 2009

Apart from Sheryl Crow's always fine vocals and a few very good tracks, there is little of the usual Crow to be found on this Christmas release.

Only two tracks stand out from the predominantly mainstream Christmas moods which characterize this album which really does not sound very inspired.

Crow's only original song "There is a Star that Shines Tonight" is a very fine song though, and helps on the overall uninspired impression, if the listener has not already lost interest at this point, since it's the penultimate song on the CD. The heavy strings put on the second part of the song are really unnecessary and I think the song would have better without them.

The CD's absolute peak, however, is the last track, the beautiful traditional "All Through the Night". It seems this song is the only track that has been given a new and original approach.

The rest of the CD is rather ordinary mainstream interpretations of traditional songs and carols, in several cases arranged like Patsy Cline in the early 1960s.

Why Crow chose to re-record "Blue Christmas" is a mystery - her previous version was much more fresh and actually sounded as a Sheryl Crow song.

If you like traditional Christmas music this CD could easily be something for you; if in contrary you are looking out for new original Sheryl Crow music with her personal edge, you will probably be disappointed with this release.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love this Album and am Glad I bought it!, December 31, 2009

I just bought this album in December 2009 after I recently discovered the very beautiful "There is a Star that Shines Tonight" on YouTube. I like every song on the album, even "O Holy Night" about which 4 reviewers panned Sheryl Crow's singing. I think she sings it really well. She does not have the operatic voice that you usually hear sing this song, but so what? I have liked her voice ever since I first heard her sing live on a late night live radio broadcast in NYC, in 1993, when the only way I could buy Tuesday Night Music Club was by writing away for it, as it was not yet available in stores.

I like all the various song arrangements, some in blues style, and some non-traditional versions of songs like "White Christmas" and "The Christmas Song." For me, the energetic, good feeling of the blues style songs, the gospel style songs, the uplifting songs, make for a very happy, Merry Christmas feeling. Nothing boring here, just beautiful singing and good musical arrangements. I am glad I listened to the words of those reviewers here who praised this album, and ignored those who did not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Merry Christmas!!!, December 20, 2008

I was pleasantly surprised when I heard that Sheryl Crow had released a christmas cd. I now just finished listening to it and let me tell you, it is an excellent cd from beginning to end. As for those who say to avoid "O Holy Night", it's not that bad. I mean, she doesn't have the kind of voice you are used to hearing sing this song, but I still think she sings it pretty well.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sheryl Crow Review, January 23, 2011

I'm not thrilled with this album. In all honesty, I thought I was getting the yearly Hallmark album I get every year which offers superb quality. In actuality, this is a very middle of the road Christmas album. I think Crowe brings nothing new to these songs, and as a collector of Christmas music, I would pick dozens of other albums to listen to before I reached for this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars As Santa would say, "So-So-So", December 10, 2008

As a big fan of Sheryl Crow's music and of holiday music, I was really looking forward to this album. It's pleasant enough, but not much stands out here. Sheryl's take on holiday chestnuts like "White Christmas," "I'll Be Home for Christmas," and "Blue Christmas," are nice, but the arrangements and instruments aren't anything dazzling or unique. This is the sort of thing to put on in the background while you're taking care of holiday chores and activities. That said, there's one big low and a couple of high points. As another reviewer here said, the version of "O Holy Night" here is pretty terrible, but the two closing tracks that follow it are terrific, the Crow-penned "There is a Star That Shines Tonight" and a lovely version of "All Through the Night." These two really make the album worth having for me. Also, the bonus download track available online, "Hello, My Friend, Hello," is great. If only I could swap "O Holy Night" off of the CD for that one.
