5.0 out of 5 stars Top-notch nonfiction, July 24, 1996
By A Customer
This review is from: For Home and Country: A Civil War Scrapbook (Young Reader's Hist- Civil War) (Hardcover)
This sixth and final volume in the civil war series
gives readers an overview of the war, covering topics
such as: training camps, outfitting the troops, prisoners of war,
and the march home. Numerous, captioned, black-and-white
photographs, quotes from eyewitnesses, and facsimiles of
contemporary newspaper clippings, advertisements, and
letters give the book a true "scrapbook" look and feel.
Includes: four-page timeline of the war; glossary; bibliography.
Written in a lively tone and liberally peppered with
ancedotes and interesting details, the narrative
pulls the reader in and truly makes history come alive.
Add to that the visually appealing graphics and well-designed
layout, and you have here top-notch nonfiction.
