This is a very appropriate book for young childern, but realistically protrays the dangers involved with puppy mills; without being over graphic, it explains why these operations hurt dogs and why it is important not to support them, and what you can do to help. It is a heart warming story of a little keeshond who finds her forever home after some tough times.

This book does an excellent job explaning what the horrible, cruel puppy mills are like and what its probably like for animals who live/lived there without watering it down any, but also making it suitable for children to read.

I have not read this book yet...seems like a poor basis for a review I know! I just want to make readers aware that this book was selected by the Humane Society of the United States as the winner of the 2009 KIND Children's Book Award. They say: "A Home for Dakota, follows a former puppy mill dog as she changes from fearful and confused into a loving and lovable companion. This book offers hope that puppy mills will one day be a thing of the past."

Wonderfully well thought out book. I do believe everyone - regardless of age - should read this book. It sure makes you think. Very happy ending for all involved.

This is a wonderful book about rescuing puppy mill dogs and what wonderful pets rescue animals make. Encourages humane treatment of all animals.
