5.0 out of 5 stars Best Sewing Book Ever
Hello, this book is small, but wonderful. This is the best home decor sewing book I have found, the instructions are clear and helpful. There is a section on your sewing machine, seams, and everything I wanted to know was here. Finally after sewing classes and many other books, I finished my bedroom curtains, and I'm ready to do more. I can't believe I like to sew. Before...

Before it was a chore and made me cry in frustration, I wish I found this book a long time ago. Worth the money, I like the series but this book was the best.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great help to a real beginer!, February 14, 2001

This book guided me step by step through many projects. Every step is explained in words and pictures, which made it very easy to follow along. I also found the knowing the parts of the machine section in the beginning of the book very helpful. At the end of each project several variations are suggested and explained. Some requiring greater skills, but still achievable ones by the average beginner. My only complaint was that after completing the duvet cover project and making a coordinating flanged pillow set, I realized that the book did not include instructions on making the bed skirt. The photograph that introduces the duvet cover project shows a bed skirt - I think a good addition to the book would be bed skirt instructions. This would allow the beginner to complete a bed redecorate project in the same easy to follow instruction manual.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for the Do-It-Yourself Decorator!, November 5, 2002

As someone who returned to sewing after a 20 year absence, I found this book a wonderful way to "jump start" into projects. The instructions were clear and the illustrations made each project a "never fail" project. Also, there are dozens of tips and sewing term explanations throughout the book that were helpful as well. Coats & Clark even suggests the different fabrics you can use for each project which was a plus for me. I've completed all but one project from the book and get raves from people who see my handiwork. There are so many DIY projects and suggestions for decorating your home in this one book, it was well worth buying.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, but not what I was looking for, May 2, 2004

I gave the book four stars even though I have decided to not keep it. For those wanting to try some easy beginning home decorating projects this book has several popular examples such as roman shades and decorator pillows. However, this book ended up not being what I was looking for. I was looking for something with a little more instruction for total beginners like myself and almost all the designs rely on a sewing machine, which I don't own.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I thought it was, August 27, 2004
This review is from: Home Decor for Beginners (Coats & Clark) (Spiral-bound)
I got this book thinking that it was going to be for a complete beginner (like me), but I really did not think that it was, seemed to be more directed toward someone with some sewing experience or skill.I wasted my money on this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy-to-follow instructions, August 22, 2005

I bought this book with the intention of making some home decor items, but mostly to help me improve my sewing in general. I thought that the clear, step-by-step instructions and explanations were great, not only for the particular project, but also for obtaining useful general information. I did finally make the Roman shades, and they turned out great. Without this book, I'm not sure that I would have had the confidence to tackle this project.
