4.0 out of 5 stars if you liked the B @ T's song...
I noticed a lot of folks liked "Breakfast at Tiffany's", then some either liked the rest of it and some didn't. If you like that song (and it is kinda catchy), you are highly likely to like Pop Art, a band I really enjoyed in the mid-late eighties. There is a retrospective CD available, so it's not like you have to go a-hunting for old vinyl. When B@T came out, it was...

Thought I'd share that obscure gem with anyone who might be reading these reviews!

A Band with one major hit. But I would suggest to check out this band if you like good Alterative Rock bands (sounds like perhaps Weezer, R.E.M., and U2). I'm not too much into this style of music but it is listenable and enjoyable. While I'm not suggesting that this is acoustic, You may like this if you like such music. 1. Gammer Gerten's Needle - A decent song to intro the album. Worth a listen . . .85% .2. Breakfast At Tiffany's - The only true radio hit on the album. It's a decent catchy sound to it. . . .100% .3. Halo - A nice song with catchy guitar. . . . 85% .4. Josey - A tad slower song with that nice guitar and bass. . . . 90% .5. A Water Prayer - faster Paced song. Enjoyable sound to the guitar. . . . 95% .6. Done - Faster song. A tad heavy. Somewhat interesting. But I wouldn't play it to your Girlfriend lol. . . . 95% . 7. A Song To Make Love To - Fast pace song. Good to listen to. . . . 90%8. The Kandinsky Prince - Fast song that is sort of funny. It's a decent laughable song. . . . 95% .9. Home - Softer song. A possible second hit if they had released it as a single. . . . 95% .10. Red Light - Fast decent song. . . . 85% .11. I Can Wait -mostly an acoustic track thats enjoyable. . . . 85% .12. Wouldn't Change A Thing - slower song. It's a true ender. . . . 85% . . If You like this album I would suggest trying out another album by "Deep Blue Something" but other than that: Live - The Distance to here, Better Than Ezra - Deluxe, Jars of Clay -Jars of Clay, Dog's Eye View - Happy Nowhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Band, April 27, 2007
This review is from: Home (Audio CD)
I forst saw DBS at EdgeFest in 1995, Along with Adam Ant, Letters to Cleo, Veruca Salt, POL, and someother bands. I believe that the Toadies and Nixons were there, I may be getting them mixed with other bands. Anyways, They were clearly the best band on state that day. I also have seen in concert 3 other times and their performance can compete with any other concert that I have gone to. I can honestly say that I can listen to all of their albums without skipping over any songs. Being from Dallas and also working with Clay Bergus's Mother-In-Law, I may be Biased since they are from Denton.

They are a great band and I will be one of the first in line if they ever do some type of Reunion concert

P.S. There was a Special Release of "Home" that had extra songs. They did a version of "Dear Prudence" by the Beatles. The other one I cannot remember, but it was a great song

5.0 out of 5 stars Listen..., October 18, 2000

Deep Blue Something does not equal "Breakfast At Tiffany's". Yes, that song is great, very great. And it was the main reason why I considered adding DBS to my cd collection.

If your expecting every song on this album to be as upbeat and good as "Breakfast At Tiffany's" your going to be disappointed. That's not to say every other song is subpar in contrast, HARDLY!! After listening to this CD twice, I've gotten to the point where I practically love ALL the songs on it. This CD grows on you. And to me, it's those albums that grow on you are the ones that become the most memorable and and my favorates. It's like you discovered a gem and never realized it. Deep Blue Something's HOME album is no exception.

It's hard for me to tell you the songs that are the most appealing on this album. In part, because they all fit together like a puzzle. All the songs carry this audible scent that is DEEP BLUE SOMETHING. The only song that I have troube with is "I can't wait". The lyrics are kind of disturbing. The music is great, it's the lyrics i have trouble relating to and somehow doesn't "fit" into the rest of the album. It talks about him assisting in a suicide of a girl who has lost all hope in life.

Other then that "HOME" is an album I love to hear often, and especially on a rainy day. It has this soothing effect that is upbeat at times and surreal and sorrow filled in others. I can't BELIEVE Deep Blue Something only has two albums out! This is one of the most underrated bands I've stumbled across. And I hope they don't go the way of one hit wonders but come back with a strong album that will carry them into a prosperous musical career.

Don't buy this album for "Breakfast At Tiffany's" only. Buy it and listen with an open mind. It has alot to offer for a good price. This CD is somewhat dated but the music is timeless.

That just about sums it up -- Breakfast at Tiffanys is the hit off the album, but the rest of the album is satisfying done in the same vein. You remember, don't you? That kind of alterna-jangle light guitar rock that was popular in the early 90s, before grunge took off? Deep Blue Something has a little bit of that 1990 Madchester sound, crossed with a bit of the Posies' first album (a truly spectular listen by the way). They really do sound a bit british -- surprisingly, I believe they're from the South (alabama or something). The record's not groundbreaking or anything like that, but it's a fun summery sound.

So if you're the kind of person who's still humming Breakfast at Tiffanys, and is curious about the rest of this album, give it a try. You probably won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars the people who rated it poorly are misleading, July 6, 2000

This was an awesome cd. I got it like 4 years ago, and I still love listening to it. The songs are a bit different than one would expect, but very well written. Home is an awesome song. If you don't have this cd, and you haven't forgotten about this band yet, which you obviously haven't, becuase you are reading this, then you NEED to buy this. It's an awesome cd, and you won't regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Read "Mobile Estates" review, change a few song titles., December 9, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Home (Audio CD)
Seriously...I never saw this coming, and I certainly don't know what to make of it, but I feel EXACTLY the same way about Home (especially Re. DBS) as Mobile Estates (especially Re. Citizen King). Compare and contrast:

* The breakthrough hit that's really easy to identify because it's completely unlike everything else they ever did.
* The general "life isn't the greatest, but we're making the most of it" mentality (a dependable alt-rock staple).
* Lots of seemingly thrown together lyrics that kinda make more sense after repeated listenings.
* A consistently vibrant but still fairly mellow beat; the tracks almost blend into each other.

Add it all up and...well, if you're a fan of alt-rock, you'll like it. Plain and simple.

(P.S. I was going to add You Can't Stop The Bum Rush, but even I think that's a little too much of a stretch. :-D)

Breakfast at Tiffany's is the only good song on this album. Unfortunately, I thought the rest of the album would be like 'Breakfast at Tiffany's,' but not a single song sounded like it. The other 11 songs really aren't that good and make this album boring when compared to their hit song above. It doesn't seem like the other songs are catchy like the aforementioned song.
