My son loves this toy, and we haven't had any durability problems (and we've had it for about 6 months). My only complaint is that the toy is extremely loud.

UPDATE: Well, I spoke too soon - the toy became separated from its handle after about a year of use.

My son also had this toy for about 3 days before it broke. The shaft broke in half, but because he loved it so much I decided to buy another one. This one lasted longer, maybe 2 weeks before it broke also. I continued to let him play with it because he loved it so. Soon though the round bottom part began to crack and all the little beads would come out whenever he turned it on. Will not buy another one. Very cheap manufacturing, especially for a toy geared towards little ones.

Our son got this for his bday yesterday!!!! He was having so much fun when 30 minutes later the thing broke in two pieces. We saw the whole thing and he was not being too wild or crazy - just playing. It was SOOOOOOO disappointing. He cried for a long time and couldn't understand what happened. It would be nice if a toy meant for preschoolers was built to withstand preschool play.

So, I did all the research last Christmas to buy our son a weed wacker so he could do yard work just like his Daddy. I saw the reviews that said the shaft breaks and it is just down right not durable. I convinced myself to buy it by thinking, "Our kid isn't destructive with toys.....and it would really make him happy. I'll take my chance that maybe the others who commented just received a lemon" Well, sure enough, the shaft broke by New Year's Day and to this day the weed wacker is covered with gray duck tape just to keep the thing together. Bottom line, it is a fun toy, but it is made so extremely bad. Bummer. Read the reviews before purchasing this product, they are real and they will save you money. I notice that John Deere has a trimmer out this year. I believe I may look into the John Deere for this Christmas.

My daughter has become enthralled with yard work lately so we decided to get her some tools of her own. We bought both the weedwacker and the chainsaw from the Home Depot collection and while the chainsaw is her favorite, the weedwacker gets a lot of use too. The toy is a little loud, so we've limited it strictly to outside use for everyone's sanity. Overall, my daughter is very happy with her new yard tools and they haven't been broken yet as some others have noted in their reviews.

My son got this and & the leaf blower for his birthday and less than 15 minutes after it was opened, it was broken at the extension point. I watched him & his friends the whole time and it was not abused. It was a gift from a local Toys R Us and they refused to even exchange the defective one without a receipt even though the sign didn't indicate this was the policy until 6-12-06. He has a blast with the leaf blower but I am not thrilled with Toys R Us and probably won't shop there anymore. Extremely poor customer service. Too bad Home Depot is letting their name get associated with such poor toys and bad service.

It makes fun out of a daily chore, and also teaches the child in the long run how important the upkeep of his or her surroundings is.

MY SON,JOSEPH LOVES THE WEEDEATER. HE HAS A LAWNMOWER AND ALWAYS SEES THE NEIGHBORS TRIMMING AND WANTED A WEEDEATER TOO. WHEN WE GO VISIT FAMILY, HE TAKES HIS LAWNMOWER AND WEEDEATER.

My 3 yr old son received this for his birthday. Both he and his older siblings loved it for 2 days until the shaft broke in 2 places. Extremely disappointed with the durability

We purchased the Weed Trimmer with the Leaf Blower. The sounds and movement of the beads in the head of the trimmer make it really realistic for our little guy. I would definitely recommend this product.
