Having previously subscribed to this magazine while living in California, I am glad to subscribe again. I have used many of the design ideas in this magazine--right down to the design of the traditional windows in my home. In that case, I contacted the writer/homeowner/architect by e-mail and got a very kind and helpful response about dimensions, etc. I have to make sure my dollars are spent correctly as I plan for my first and only home. Thank goodness for this bimonthly magazine!

UPDATE: This magazine now includes more contemporary designs, but still is worth the cost for the traditional/transitional material. There is a yearly "Sourcebook" edition which includes even more people on the East Coast generally willing to be contacted or whose web sites include additional design features. Even the ads--especially for garden designs--are quite lovely (however, I live at 9,212 feet altitude--even though not using the same plants, by careful plant selection I can still create the designs from this magazine) I have taken a 10 week Master Gardener class for that purpose; these classes are located all over the country, so check out your own area.

THE REAL VALUE in this magazine is to see to use of materials (e.g., granite that looks really good, and which type is usually identified clearly), various stylistic approaches, and the steps used to renovate a room, choosing colors, fabrics, furniture, appliances, panelling, decks, and even ceiling designs. The one thing I can't figure out is a good curtain design for Palladian and half-round windows without covering any window grills, yet still be able to close the curtains against the cold. It's 10 below zero here tonight. SUGGESTIONS PLEASE.

I purchased this product for my wife (budding designer) and she loves it. It is wide ranging and engaging even for a guy!

As wife and I are planning a retirement place in NC, we wanted to get every inch out of our new home. This has really good practical ideas for building or redoing.

My mother purchased this magazine subscription for me as a Christmas gift at the beginning of November 2010. According to the magazine company, it takes up to 12 weeks to receive your first subscription. I never got mine in that time! I told my mom that I still hadn't received my 1st magazine subscription so she contacted Amazon who then contacted the magazine company. Finally! My 1st magazine arrived at my door sometime in April 2011! This magazine is full of advertisements! Aside from the disaster that I had experienced thus far, I was still optimistic about my next magazine and what it had to offer. Unfortunately, I never got it! It's now the end of June 2011! Needless to say, I called my mom, told her I hadn't received my 2nd magazine, and to just cancel the subscription... What a disappointment!

"Home & Design" magazine is a very innovative publication that contains images of various homes in the Washington D.C. area. This magazine piqued my interest due to the intent of both my husband and I to purchase our own house by November 2014 in the D.C. area. There are some great house magazines available, but "Home &Design" features what can be found in the area that I live. I say this with the psychological awareness that it is easier to visualize what is possible for home buying when the pictures come from the local area. For instance, the Fall 2011 issue features some captivating pictures of outside patios and living rooms. One of my favorite photographs from this issue is an image on page 119 taken of a bedroom and yoga loft with a master bath visual (which was courtesy of Ponte Mellor Architects, LTD). "Homes & Design" is best for the many who wish to glean inspiration from some high-quality home photographs of the Washington D.C. area.
