The amount of blood required seems to be half what my One Touch wanted. The slightest prick usually draws enough blood. I haven't taken it to the doctor's to compare readings, but the results usually match how I feel and where I think I should be based on exercise and carb intake. If I skip lunch, the results from the Sidekick start to show I'm getting hypoglycemic just as I begin to feel it.
The Sidekick does not include a "lance", so I use the one that came with another glucometer. The Sidekick is very small, looks like a longer version of an old 35mm film cartridge. The lit flips up to give access to the strips, which are inside. It would be perfect if they could attach a lance.
The Sidekick "remembers" all 50 tests, so you don't have to write them down all at once. You push a button on the side of the lid and the readings show on top with the most recent one first.
You don't have to set it as you do for the One Touch. There's a tiny vial of test liquid and you use your first strip to verify the glucometer is working properly.
Fast results, and have tested it against other meters and seems very accurate. I see other reviews stating inaccuracies but this has not been my experience. Love the portability of this meter too,
The package includes the meter which doubles as the lid of a test strip container. Included with mine was 50 strips. Also in the box is control solution, directions and a small pouch.
Each test requires 1µl and it wants that too. Out of 50 tests 10 malfunctioned because of too little blood. As comparison the ReliON Prime only requires 0.5µl and Accu-Check FreeStyle 0.3µl. Because of that I don't think this one takes 'less blood' at all!
I feel like this meter might not be very accurate. One test showed 78mg/dl while a second test just moments later was 90. That is a pretty big range. None of the results in 40 really seem to support the working diagnosis that I might have diabetes. I started a new meter today and the results were surprisingly higher than anything I ever saw on this meter. Almost 20mg/dl higher than anything I received 4 hours after similar meals when testing with the Nipro SideKick. None of the tests I did back to back were less than 10mg/dl from each other. Even the control solution had a 15 point shift twenty seconds apart from each other.
When you provide the proper blood, the device starts a 5 second count down and displays the result. If you don't provide the proper amount of blood it immediately displays E2. This instant feedback saves time.
If you are going to be testing your blood glucose for a few weeks to see how you stand, this meter might be a good choice. It is considerably cheaper than anything else Wal-Mart had when you consider the other meters are sold with the test strips separately.
If you are going to be testing your blood glucose continuously for the indeterminable future consider another meter.Read more ›

Love this all-in-one meter with strips. Been using for 3 years now. Price is great for me as I only test once -a-day and have to pay for these myself.Published 1 month ago by yellowmom
Very inaccurate. Fasting test showed 139. Immediate follow up test showed 118. My Doctors test shows I'm in normal range. This meter is not to be trusted.Published 7 months ago by DW Brown
