I've been a huge Dierks Bentley fan since his eponymous album dropped in 2003. Follow up albums Modern Day Drifter and Long Trip Alone were both great, showing strides vocally, but all three followed a pretty good formula--a handful of really sorrowful hurtin' love songs (with a touch of optimism on a track or two) and a handful of fun, catchy diddies. Bentley is at home with the sad songs, it's what he has done so well.

Feel that Fire was a bit of a departure. More upbeat than any of his previous albums it was still a good rockin' addition to his discography.

Up on the Ridge was a natural and beautiful progression. Many people were hung up on the title of "bluegrass" album but really, it was right up Bentley's alley.

The reason why I brought up his past was to understand "Home", his newest album. I'm all for artists growing, adapting, and trying something new. That's not "Home". I'm all for artists sticking to what they do well. That's not "Home" either. "Home" doesn't feel like an evolution, nor does it sound like Bentley's standard. Aside from track one "Am I the Only One" (one of his great up beat songs) and track 12 (a sappy yet beautiful ballad) the rest of the album is so bland, so generic, so over-produced that nothing stands out, nothing shines, nothing hits, if I may be so bold, "home".

Gone are the sorrowful wistful songs that he does so well. The tracks that come close are so over produced (or maybe he's just too happy in his life?) they lack anything resembling hurt in his voice. "In my head" and "When you gonna come around" just don't work like they should. 5-1-5-0 is an okay catchy tune. The rest of the album just falls flat.

Because it's Bentley he still makes the songs better than they should be. Yet this album is nowhere near the quality and standard that his fans are used to.

I have been thoroughly enjoying this new CD from Dierks Bentley! Not a bad song in the bunch! I've got it on my iPod and in the vehicle I use for commuting - "Thinking of You", "5150", and "Home" are a few of my favorites on the CD. Enjoy!

There was a time in my life that I would have meant "radio friendly" as an insult. However, making music is both an art and a business. There's nothing wrong with doing what you love and making some coins at the same time. The songs are just too good for me to resent Dierks for backing away from the bluegrass sound of "Up On The Ridge". Once again. it's a good helping of "pickup truck anthems" with loud guitars tempered with intelligent ballads that don't resort to schmaltz. Even "Home" manages to say "hey, I'm proud of my country" without resorting to the "you're either for us or against us" ugliness that certain artists used to cash in on the Iraq war not too long ago. I may not live on the main street of Nashville but as long as Brad Paisley and Dierks Bentley are around, I'll continue to drop by.

Dierks has a wonderful voice/band and on a few of this songs on this album he knocks it out of the park. But, on a lot of the other songs the musical composition/lyrics just don't live up to his abilitys.
I'm hoping in the future that he can put together an album which is filled with hits.
Not giving up on him, this album just doesn't do him justice thus the 3 star rating.

There are several good selections on this CD but HOME gets my vote for a down-to-earth anthem about the most important place in our lives - HOME. Nicely done by Dierks Bentley.

I have purchased every Dierks Bentley album that has come out and have loved each of them. Each one has it's own personal touch by Bentley. This one only gets four stars because I feel he should've included more emotional stuff, rather than most being about drinking and partying. I know he's evolving into his own style and "fingerprint" on country music, but I hope he isn't going in the direction of yet again another part guy in the music scene. All in all, the album has good lyrics and music... I just wish he would've included more love ballads and emotion on some of the tracks. "Home" is by far the best track on the album. If he would stick to that type of music, I would've given it a better rating. I still love Dierks Bentley's stuff. He's an amazingly talented man and for the most part, the album is a good one.

Not sure how anyone cannot give HOME 5 stars. Dierks consistently put out solid records. Have been a fan for a long time and this is the best album yet, not counting the brilliant Up on the Ridge. You will not be disappointed in any track. He perfectly combines bluegrass, country and a little rock to obtain his signature sound. This is one record that has not stopped being played since it came out last week. You will not be disappointed, get the album.
