Matheny vividly and accurately portrays the unexposed difficulties facing the youth of wealthy american suburbs. Characters are drawn to perfection creating a bond with the reader that inspires genuine interest and concern. The writing of both the narrative and dialoge is sharpe with an intelligent sense of humor that will keep the reader captivated up until the last word. I highly recommend this book to all readers.

This book is a snapshot of the real culture of Southern California where family disfunction and materialism feed upon each other. This book is a fast easy read. Eric Matheny is a great storyteller. He provides enough detail to tell the story, but does not go overboard and bore you to death. There are several parts that have stayed with me long after the book was finished.

Easy to know characters combined with a great story made this one hard to put down. I simply didn't want it to end.
Finally a poignant tale about the lifestyles of the overindulged children of the baby boomers. It was sad and funny and all too familiar at the same time. The plot twist really knocked me out of my seat-- I can't wait for the sequel.

This one is hard to put down. Matheny's novella delicately captures the youth culture of Southern California, where the price of your house is the measure of your value to society. I was extremely impressed when I found out this was Eric Matheny's first published work, he is a master of dialogue and he truly loves his characters. Refreshing plot with exciting twists. This would make a wonderful choice for a little, laid-back, SoCal beach reading. It's like "The O.C" for smart people. This book came highly recommended to me and I highly recommend it to everyone else.
