The high and mighty is one of the best groups ever! There isnt a bad track on this cd. It features B-Boy Document '99 plus it has other sweet songs like Dirty Decibels, and Dick Starbuck "porno detective" just to name a few. If you love Hip-Hop than this is a must have cd for you!

A Moment In Time,
By
This review is from: Home Field Advantage (Audio CD)
'Home Field Advantage' is one of the landmark albums of modern 'indie' rap, coming at a time when the Rawkus label could do no wrong. The High & Mighty would leave the label soon after and create ill-will on both sides, so this record is basically the only momento of the terrific union between the two forces. And what a momento it is.The High & Mighty are the rapper/producer team of Eon and Mighty Mi, respectively. While 'Home Field Advantage' fits well within the 'backpacker' mold of Rawkus hip-hop, the album puts a much greater emphasis on the time-honored traditions of sports, women, and getting stoned. For many, it's more of a 'blue-collar' album that appeals to those who think artists like Black Star are a bit too preachy or abstract. (I don't feel that way, per se, but it's out there.) The entire record is light-hearted and maintains a laid-back, friendly vibe throughout. The true strength of 'Home Field Advantage' is the superb production of Mighty Mi. Just about every beat is catchy as hell or a pure head-nodder. At his peak (which was, well, basically this record), Mighty Mi was one of the premier producers in indie rap. As for the vocals, well, Eon is no Rakim, but he has an easy charm and likeability that carries him throughout the record. He serves up some nice punchlines and keeps the energy level high with nice steady flows. Stoners or not, The High & Mighty were smart enough to know that Eon (scrappy underdog though he is) couldn't carry a whole album on his own. To that end, they roped in an unbelievable slew of guest rappers that tear the place apart. From big names (Eminem, Cage, Mos Def) to indie cult favorites, you will hear some of the finest rappers of the era flowing beautifully over Mighty Mi's superb beats. Other than a few stiffs on 'Hands-On Experience,' everyone brings their A game. Anyone into indie rap (particularly from the Rawkus era) simply needs to own this album; hell, any hip-hop fan should. Even if you're not into sports or herb, the untouchable production on this record makes it one of those albums that sits in your car or CD changer for ages, just in case you want to pop it in and groove. The High & Mighty would never reach this level again in their later releases, but this is one hell of a party.

Mighty High Advantage,

Now a days, rappers and producers have their own independent label to get a name for themselves. Hence, Mr. Eon and DJ Mighty Mi formed the label for bringing hip-hop back, named Rawkus. Production was handled by half team member, DJ Mighty Mi, with a little help from Reef and the Alchemist. They have sparked careers for Mos Def and labelmate Pharoahe Monch which Home Field Advantage features them both. There are other underground names on here you may recognize, but the real push comes from the effort put forth by Mr. Eon to keep hip-hop in its essence form. Just check him on a solo creep on "Hot Spittable" which would get an A+ for a class of music that is slowly dying. Only hip-hop heads would appreciate this.

True Hip hop...,

This album is pure hip hop the way its supposed to be. Hip hop is about the flows and the ablility to spit them, and I think they bust flows tight....the guest appearance make this CD an 11. I can listen to this CD from start to finish. If you are a true hip hop head and not a sell out, you will love this CD. I usally burn all my CDs, but this one is so tight, I'm throwing down bills to get it. Peace...

Indeed the Eastern Conference is quite original. Even before I learned that both members of this duo were huge 76er and Eagle fans and Jews (all pluses in my book) I was all over this CD simply from the sound. Unlike so many other caucasian rappers (possible exceptions of Evidence, El P and a couple others) Mr. Eon simply acts as an emcee, and a damn good one, not a poster-child for some neglected white culture (see Ben Folds' "Rockin in the Suburbs"). Even though Mighty Mi does not cut and scratch these days he is a masterful beat artist and a major asset to the thunder and lightning of this record. A pre-sellout Eminem, a fresh Pharoahe Monch and Mos Def, Kool Keith in his prime, Evidence, Defari, and a host other guests add to the quality this record (NOT a compilation since Mi& E are on every track). The album is traditional hip-hop for the new era, solid grooves, real emceeing, discussion of prevalent hip hop themes and issues, humor, and all with a genuine style that is as they used to say "unfakable." This album is a must have for any true hip-hop enthusiast.

( ) peddler for life. ANOTHER must have album for headseverywhere. Mr. Eon is tight (plus he's white, but that's beyond thepoint, everyone thinks eminem is the only whitey out there, and personally, he has the least amount of personality, not that he's bad, but i think there are far more white mc's out there doing their thing that i'd rather listen too, sorry to get off the point......PS, I, too, am white). Mr. Eon has his own style that is funny to listen to. DJ mighty mi has some major skills that can't be denied. Pick this up and you won't be dissapointed. END

Look... this is a classic album from the best record label in hip hop... ever. When I first bought the album, i wasn't that blown away until i heard a dj spin an instrumental version of the album. These are great beats, like updated classic hip hop. I particularly love 'The Meaning', built around a sample from Cypress Hill's 'Stoned is the Way of the Walk'. Mr. E isn't the greatest emcee, but these are fun lyrics, and he gets to go back and forth with some really strong guest rappers... anyone ever hear of pharoahe monch, mad skillz, eminem, kool keith...?'Open Mic Night' and 'Hands on Experience pt. 2' belong on everyone's best mixtape... BUY ALL RAWKUS ALBUMS! BRING EM BACK!!!

I came across this CD by accident and it made me glad that accidents happen from time to time. If you buy this CD and like you should then go out and buy Smutpeddlers' (same group just a different name) Porn Again. If you are fan of Kool Keith(Dr. Doom, Dr. Octagon, or whatever you know him by) then I definitely recommend this album because it has one of Kool Keith's greatest songs Hand's On Experience, which is a hilarious song about spanking the monkey. If you are a fan of Eminem then get this record because it has a song from him before he went pop. This CD has numerous songs that will satisfy anybody no matter what their taste in hip hop is. Open Mic Night Remix is not the best song on the record but it is a suprise for anyone who watched Lyricist Lounge on MTV. Open Mic features Wordsmith from Lyricist Lounge and if you watched it you will be suprised by the skills he has(because he sure as h#ll didn't show them on The Lyricist Lounge). This is an album that anyone can love and will be a favorite for anyone that listens to it.
