5.0 out of 5 stars Just superb, January 12, 2007

I can't say enough about this recording. I've listened to it about five times and I still find it enormously interesting. It combines popular music from the 40s as well as excellent commentary on WWII history. The production is very professional.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating - highly recommended!, February 27, 2009

This 5 1/2 hour "book"-on-tape is a fascinating look at World War II and its effects on the lives and culture of Americans back home. It really takes those years out of the history book and brings them to life. It is sure to be a nostalgic stroll down memory lane for those old enough to remember it, and for those of us who know that period only from the stories of our parents and grandparents, it is a chance to see a defining part of their life through their eyes.

If you know somebody from that generation, listen to it with them. I guarantee it will be a special time for you both!

5.0 out of 5 stars a permanent mark on my childhood, October 29, 2008
This review is from: The Home Front: The Drama of the War Years : Music-People-Events (Audio Cassette)
As a kid, I listened to this entire set on a road trip with my grandparents. It changed my life. I learned more about WW2 in those 2 weeks than I have ever again. I love William B. Williams- his voice is soothing and inviting. I have listened to these tapes a few times since then- and wish I could find it on CD/mp3, so I could have it in my car now!

If you've never heard these tapes, you need to fix your life- and order them now!!

I have listened to and worn out multiple copies of this excellent audio series on World War II. It is informative but also very entertaining, weaving together the political, military and entertainment events into the every-day life of the average person. It is funny as well as heartbreaking, and any listener will feel back in time experiencing these critical historical events for the first time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hello World! This is the HomeFront!, August 23, 2010

I love this series. This radio documentary is a treasure. I bought one a long time ago in 1994 and listened to it over and over again. I love history, Big Band music, the whole era...it's a fabulous history tool and very interesting and informative. It's IS in cassette form but that's the only way anyone is going to be able to find it which is a shame.

Somehow my first set was lost which prompted me to buy another one. The set is just that good. This series, especially when played in one of those reproduction radios with the antique facade but CD/Cassette/AM-FM capabilities, literally takes you back to the 1940's with the music, authentic news radio soundbites and vintage commercials. When I painted my dining room, the documentary was like an old friend, keeping me company with the news, music and stories and history.

The quality of the four tapes were very good and in good listening condition. The box was a little banged up but otherwise, everything works and works well.

This is a serious find if you just love history, like listening to radio or for a history tool. It's a treasure.
