He is the winner of the 2010 Association of Alternative Newsweeklies national award for news reporting and is included in The Best American Crime Reporting 2010. "I was born on the front page. My dad was well-known in town and had been a big football star. Thus my birth got front-page billing in the Hoquiam 'Washingtonian,' under the headline 'Another Halfback is Born.' My uncle Art wrote sports for the Aberdeen 'Daily World' but I think I was more inspired by my grandfather Charlie Eddy, a drunken Irish newspaperman who tried to burn down his house for the insurance money. Now there's a journalist."

"Seattle Vice"

-Seattlest says "Fantastic...Anderson has a perfect grasp not only on what's relevant in Seattle history, but what is compelling about it."

-Seattle Metropolitan magazine says "Maybe no one knows where more bodies, figurative and literal, are buried in this town than Rick Anderson...a good read and a valuable volume for any aficionado of Seattle history, politics, or crime."

-Seattle Times says "Recounts the colorful story of the empire of the late Frank Colacurcio Sr., the 'king of vice whose career spanned more than half a century ...'"

-Seattle Weekly says "an exhaustively researched alternative history of our region's netherworld, penned by about the only journalist in town who's qualified to write it."

"The Best American Crime Reporting 2010"

-Booklist says: "Although it will be of interest primarily to true-crime aficionados, this is not really a true-crime book. The focus is on the people--perpetrators and victims--rather than the nuts-and-bolts details of the crimes and investigations. For example, Rick Anderson profiles a career criminal who spent most of the past quarter-century in jail but still managed to rack up 112 convictions over the brief periods when he was out...a consistently interesting series that always spotlights fine writing and engaging stories."

5.0 out of 5 stars Important for solidiers, vets and families, July 10, 2004

This is not a Bush-bashing book but a government-bashing book (White House, Congress, name any year) and deservedly so. It's a timly and telling reminder of how we - our leaders - treat our troops on the war and home fronts. We've all heard about it - here are the sad and gory details.

5.0 out of 5 stars A story that Kerry and Bush should read, September 24, 2004

I heard the author interviewed on New York radio, where the host said every school kid in America should read this book. I agree. Don't sign that oath until you read what we really do to some of our soliders and vets.

4.0 out of 5 stars "War on Soldiers" is an understatement, November 28, 2004

This book both disgusted and enraged me. Everyone who waves the flag and shouts "Support the Troops" should read this book to learn how our government abuses these men and women and then breaks the most basic promises of support it made to them. It's like a laundry list of hypocrisy!
