5.0 out of 5 stars FUN CHRISTMAS STORIES!!
Well, I'm not sure what all the low reviews are for, because I thought this was a fun book. It's an easy to read lighthearted book to read on the these cold snowy days. Something to relax by the fire with and laugh without getting into something too serious and deep. I think they are both warm with lots of laughter and a nice romance, perfect for getting away from it...

"When Christmas Comes" is the exact same story as "Trading Christmas". Had I known that, I wouldn't have bothered with this one. Bah Humbug.

We have enough serious in our lives and it's nice to unwind with any of Debbie Macombers books. If you want deep and thought provoking material, then read an Opera book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Christmas feel-good, December 26, 2011
This review is from: Home for the Holidays: The Forgetful Bride\When Christmas Comes (Mass Market Paperback)
Home for the Holidays is an omnibus of two Debbie Macomber novels.
The Forgetful Bride was first published in 1991 and tells the story of stockbroker, Cait Marshall, in love with her boss, Paul Jamison, since she started working for his investment firm. Paul seems not to notice her at all. When building contractor, Joe Rockwell, turns up to oversee the refurbishment of the offices, he looks a little familiar to Cait. Soon enough, Cait discovers who he is, and he manages to embarrass her in front of her colleagues by recalling that they were once married, omitting to add that this was when Cait was only eight, and in exchange for a kiss that Joe wanted to experience. Joe is an inveterate teaser, and keeps referring to their marriage, even as he courts her, until Cait finally realises what her heart is telling her. This is a fun romance, with plenty of laughs, some sad moments, a Christmas connection and a heart-warming ending. Debbie Macomber always manages to leave the reader feeling good.
When Christmas Comes was first published in 2004 and tells a story of trading homes at Christmas time. When Emily Springer learns her daughter Heather is not coming home from college in Boston to Leavenworth, Washington for Christmas, she pours out her tale of woe to her friend, Faith Kerrigan in California. Eventually, Emily decides to go to Boston to see Heather, and does a house-swap with Harvard academic and curmudgeon, Professor Charles Brewster. Meanwhile, Faith decides to surprise Emily by coming to Leavenworth to cheer her up. When Heather learns Emily is in Boston, she is not at all pleased, having planned to ride to Florida for the holiday on the back of her new friend, Elijah's Harley, leaving Emily on her own. When Emily answers the phone at Charles's condo in Boston, his mom, Bernice, sends Charles's brother, Ray, from New York to investigate. There's enough humour here for plenty of laugh-out-loud moments: it would make a great Christmas TV special! There are some loveable characters and a fun plot, and of course Macomber does what she always does best: feel good romance, with a Christmas theme.

4.0 out of 5 stars Typical Macomber Christmas Fun, September 9, 2009
Every year, Debbie Macomber writes the most heart-warming Christmas stories to help readers relax during the busy holiday season. Home for the Holidays provides two good stories that will warm the heart.

The Forgetful Bride is an updated version of a story she wrote in 1991. Cait and Joe were "married" when they were children so that 10-year-old Joe could kiss 8-year-old Caitlin. The bonus Caitlin got out of the quicky marriage was to see the inside of the boys-only clubhouse, providing her with bragging rights around their childhood circle.

Many years later, Cait and Joe unexpectedly meet again. Although Cait has her eyes on an adorable co-worker who doesn't seem to recognize her desire for him, Joe is instantly taken with his childhood "bride". As she loudly protests, Joe insists they are still married and teasingly wants his rights as her husband.

The tug-of-war that ensues will bring a grin to your face if not a chuckle. Enjoy this Christmas time fun battle of the sexes.

When Christmas Comes - This story is a hilarious mix-up that brings out the true meaning of Christmas, whether one wants it or not. Emily traded her Washington home for Charles' Boston condo. Emily's friend Faith unexpectedly decides to visit Emily in Washington, but finds Charles instead. In the meantime, Charles brother decides to visit him in Boston only to find Emily ensconced in the condo.

Throughout the confusion, mixed-messages, and mayhem loves begins to find it's way among these unlikely couples.

Both of these light-hearted stories are just what one needs, along with a cup of hot chocolate, to relax after a busy day of shopping and wrapping gifts. Relax and enjoy the fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars Warm stories to delight the heart, August 1, 2006
Two very cute stories in 1 holiday package. Debbie Macomber has an excellent talent to create warm and lovable characters! "When Christmas Comes" had a charming plot and somehow very believable. "The Forgetful Bride" captured a lovely sense of humor! Debbie Macomber also has the knack to create a male lead with a WONDERFUL sense of humor. It makes for a very SEXY male!

This review is from: Home for the Holidays: The Forgetful Bride\When Christmas Comes (Mass Market Paperback)
If I had it to do again, I would have saved my money. This is a very easy read and very light hearted, which is fine. What I didn't like the book is something I would expect a 16 year old to write. The behaviors of the lead female are very childish and not the behaviors of an adult. For example, who would tell their boss that at the age of eight you had a pretend marriage and you didn't want him to be concerned about it. Honestly -- This is one example but the juvenile writng made it a challenge to keep reading
