California Christmas,
By IndigoRaiyne (Aiken, SC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Home for the Holidays (Zebra Contemporary Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I enjoyed this book but not as much as I had hoped. It is the story of Rachel Porter and Reno Wright. But also the story of Reno's sister Angela and his best friend Nate. To be honest, I liked the Nate/Angela storyline much better than the Reno/Rachel one. Mostly because I liked Nate and Angela and felt they had more chemistry than Reno and Rachel.
I liked Reno OK, but I never felt like I knew much about him. He was a football player who wanted to please everyone and owned a sporting goods store. That was it. He never seemed to grow or change and while I could see why Rachel would like him, there wasn't a reason for her to not like him either. I was never all that fond of Rachel. While I didn't hate her, I was never really rooting for her either. I thought she was somewhat shallow and I never understood the disdain she felt for Kismet. It was never really explained except to say that she thought California was better. Overall, I liked the book but I probably wouldn't read it again.

The individual stories were interesting, but the flow was a little rough. It bounced from Reno & Rachel, to Nate & Angela, to Reno's parents. Nice Christmas theme reading. I commend writers who can juggle multiple storylines/characters in 1 book.

Home For the Holidays,
This review is from: Home for the Holidays (Zebra Contemporary Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
After finding her boyfriend and her best client in bed together, celebrity stylist Rachel Porter gets back at them by dressing them in horrendous fashions at a major event. Things backfire though and Rachel loses all her clients when they think she has lost her sense of style so Rachel leaves L. A. and heads home to Kismet, Michigan until things blow over. Reno Wright used to be a kicker for the NFL football team, the Scorpions. Now, Reno owns a sports equipment store called The Wright Stuff in Kismet. Reno is everyone's go- to- guy. He helps everyone in need, so when his neighbor asks him to pick up her daughter at the airport, he does. Reno and Rachel seem like complete opposites, but from the moment they meet at the airport, it's obvious they have chemistry. Too bad once they get back to town Reno's friend Nate begs Reno to set him up with Rachel. Reno's sister Angela offers to help too. Pretty soon Rachel is wondering if life in L.A. is not as good as she thought and Reno doesn't want to give Rachel to his friend because he wants her himself.
Reno and his sister Angela have similar dilemma's that involve the same girl. It makes for some very amusing moments. Nate is great! His Neanderthal charm is simply irresistible. Reno is the perfect guy. He's kind, compassionate, and very sexy and Rachel is a hometown girl dressed up in Gucci and Prada. Home For The Holidays is a bit of a modern day It's A Wonderful Life. It's romantic and fun and full of heartwarming moments! Nannette reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

This wasn't the worst book i've ever read but I definitely wouldn't reccomend it to a friend. It was completely predictable and I kept thinking to myself that the author needed to do more research. The main character (Rachel Porter) was a stylist to the stars yet this woman had no clue about what a real stylist's job is. It seemed like she was constantly referencing silly pop culture. I believe the MTV show "Made" was mentioned 3 several times. It definitely wasn't worth the $8 I spent on it.
